#TutuTuesday: A Whirl Through Ballet History - 15th March 1932!

Hello my darlings, and welcome back to another dazzling #TutuTuesday! It's Emma here, your resident pink-tutu-clad time traveller, and this week we're stepping back in time to the fabulous 15th of March, 1932!

This is blog post number 5229, if you can believe it! (Don't you love the fact that our time travel is all done by tutus?) Today, we're going to be looking at ballet in the 1930s – a time of incredible elegance, innovative choreography and, of course, absolutely breathtaking costumes!

Now, I can't tell you about everything we find in the past, can I? That would be spoiling the fun of discovery! So, I'll keep things light and fluffy. But trust me, even when we're focusing on the lighter side of things, this is all part of the magnificent ballet history!

Train Travel to the Roaring Twenties

So, the year is 1932, and I've just stepped off the train in London (can't beat a train journey, can you? You can even have a tutu-shaped hat box in your hand!). It’s been an absolute whirlwind journey, hopping between eras. It’s all in a day's work when you’re a pink-tutu-loving time traveller! I’m here for a big reason - I've just heard the news about a fantastic ballet opening at the Coliseum this week. Can't you feel the excitement bubbling already? It's so very thrilling!

This journey through time just feels absolutely dreamy. I love the sense of discovery – and it really brings my history lessons to life! It's so easy to forget sometimes that fashion isn't just something we decide to do today; it has an incredible history behind it. And there's just nothing like dressing for the occasion. So I’ll be indulging in all that London's roaring 1930s had to offer, but with a pink-tutu twist of course!

The Fabulous Twenties: Flapper Girls, Parisian Flair, and Dancing Shoes

Speaking of roaring times, London in the 1930s had a vibe like nothing else. Remember the Flappers of the Twenties? We’ve got the dresses with dropped waistlines, the long-line sweaters, and all that dazzling jewelry, only, they're now paired with more fitted shapes for an updated, sophisticated, look. I think they have just the perfect level of practicality mixed with playful whimsy - it just shows you that style and fashion truly have a history and evolution of their own.

Paris, of course, is the epicentre of it all - it was always there for ballet! I had a great time shopping for my outfits in London, with the Parisian designs being everywhere – so glamorous and fashionable. Honestly, a little slice of Paris landed in London, and it's been wonderful!

Ballet In the 1930s – The Art of Grace and Movement

Now, let’s move on to our real star of the show, shall we? The glorious art of ballet! As we step into this exciting decade, ballet continues to blossom! It's so thrilling to see this form of dance continue to develop.

Imagine watching ballerinas float across the stage. Every movement – every twist and twirl, every grand jeté and graceful arabesque – is simply mesmerizing!

Speaking of dancing, there's so much about dance that has just the most captivating energy to it! It’s just wonderful to see everyone dancing to those jazzy melodies, which sound absolutely perfect. It’s clear this era is all about a sense of joyous expression. It’s this spirit of celebration that has got me feeling so energized! I've even been able to fit in a couple of ballet classes at London’s Royal Opera House – a true dream! There’s nothing like a ballet class to get those tutus twirling and feeling fabulously fit.

Our Pink Tutu Story – All Things Pink!

It’s actually this kind of passion for the ballet that truly inspires me to bring a little extra magic and whimsy to everything I do. This whole time travel idea actually came to me on one of those incredible days when I'm at the theatre, watching those beautiful dancers in their amazing costumes, and the energy just pulls me back through time!

And you can tell my pink tutus are making waves everywhere! I’ve actually seen a few pink tutus in London already! This is incredible - because just like my pink tutus are my constant companion on my ballet history adventures, it’s wonderful to see others embraced such whimsical, delightful items too! You might have thought, 100 years ago that only ballerinas would wear tutus! But the world is embracing them. I have just a feeling pink tutus are going to continue to become even more popular!

Our Trip Back to Derbyshire!

I am excited to say, my darling readers, that I’ve already started planning the perfect outfit to wear on my train journey back to Derbyshire, England! After my incredible London adventures, I’m heading home to my hometown. It’s a real pleasure to be back amongst the lovely rolling green hills of Derbyshire! And a proper cuppa with my parents is the best way to top off a brilliant day, don't you agree? It's all about feeling grateful for what we have, right? I've also planned some ballet workshops in Derbyshire, to share the love of ballet, fashion, and travel. That’s a full circle moment for me, going back to where it all began, to inspire my home town to discover the amazing world of the ballet!

That's all from me for today! See you next week, darlings, when I'll be spilling all the tea (or maybe, should I say, chai?) on a time-traveling trip back to India, a land brimming with dance, and fabulous outfits – something to surely bring sparkle to every day!
