Tutu Tuesday: #5267 - Twirling Back to 1932! 🩰💕
Hello lovelies! It's your favourite pink tutu-clad time traveller, Emma, back with another installment of Tutu Tuesday! Today we're twirling all the way back to December 6th, 1932, for a peek at the wonderful world of ballet tutus just over 90 years ago. Buckle up, my darlings, as we journey back to a time of glamour, elegance, and – of course! – the most beautiful tutus.
I have to admit, it's a bit chilly travelling back in time so early in the month! But hey, even a blizzard can't dampen my spirits, especially when I'm on a quest to find the most stunning tutus for my #TutuTuesday journey.
As I disembarked the train at Victoria Station (always such an adventure! Trains are simply delightful) and made my way towards the Royal Opera House, I couldn't help but feel the air thrumming with anticipation. This was the heart of ballet, and it just pulsed with creativity and passion!
My first stop? The magnificent Royal Opera House. Back in 1932, it was a hub for the most talented ballerinas and dancers of the era, and it felt so exciting to witness it all unfold. The very thought of stepping inside sent a wave of joy through my pink tutu-loving soul. Imagine, this is where the legends of the dance world would grace the stage in tutus just like mine! The glamour, the passion, the magic – it was just irresistible.
One of the first things that caught my eye? The sheer variety of tutus, each a little different from the last! Sure, there were the classic Romantic tutus – so light, airy, and graceful – made with delicate tulle, perfectly shaped for the softest twirls. The ballerina’s movement was breathtaking as the soft tulle cascaded and floated in the air. I knew right then that I wanted one just like it for myself!
But there was more! As I explored the ballet archives, I came across something quite remarkable: the development of new materials. They were just beginning to experiment with nylon and other modern fabrics. Even back then, people wanted to make their tutus more comfortable, more practical, and more exciting! They’d never know how much I would appreciate this when travelling between centuries! Can you imagine how much easier it would be to move with all this amazing fabric?!
Speaking of movements, 1932 was a period when ballet was moving away from the more formal and traditional techniques, embracing a more expressive and passionate style. You could feel it in the way the dancers moved. They danced with freedom and emotion! It was a glorious sight!
Of course, I just had to pop into one of the most luxurious and fashionable shops, and what better place than Harrods! It was, without a doubt, a fashion haven. It was so fascinating to witness the elegance of the era and the trends taking the world by storm. The clothes, the accessories, and, of course, the delicate fabrics that flowed so effortlessly with each graceful step were a testament to the beautiful things that could be created when one poured passion into one's art! There were tutus in every colour imaginable. Not just your basic white! Black, pale green, cerulean, even touches of gold! Oh my, those glittering fabrics with their sparkles! They just make me want to swirl in circles! This shop is filled with so many exciting options, I can hardly tell where to look first!
As the sun began its descent, casting a golden hue across London, I felt a wave of warmth as I stood on the corner of a bustling London street. There were so many beautiful things about 1932, especially the spirit of hope and optimism, evident in the dancing and the fashion. And although I’ve always been a pink tutu fanatic, this era taught me the true power of expression. You can express yourself, embrace yourself and be bold in your unique fashion choices.
But I mustn't linger in the past! I’ve a big show to attend tonight at the Royal Opera House! My latest journey as a professional ballerina! This is where I gain the funding to take me to another fantastic time and place for my next Tutu Tuesday post! It’s all quite exhilarating, my dears, quite exhilarating! And while I have to make the most of this incredible life, don't worry, I’ll keep my eye out for the most gorgeous tutus to inspire your fashion adventures.
Until next week, dear friends, and remember, let your pink tutus and inner fashionista shine! You're the leading star of your own fashion show!
With love and sparkle,
Emma 💕
