#TutuTuesday Ballet Tutu History: January 31st, 1933

Hello darling tutu lovers! Welcome back to my little corner of the internet, dedicated to all things twirly, pink, and fabulous! This week, we're whisking back in time to January 31st, 1933, just in time to catch the glittering spectacle of "The Sleeping Beauty" at the Royal Opera House, the ballet equivalent of a five-star Parisian boutique, with its magnificent decor and oh-so-refined audience!

This week, for our #TutuTuesday Ballet Tutu History, I'm dressed to the nines in a vintage-inspired tulle delight, just the kind you’d spot in the theatre back then, adorned with shimmering sequins and a charming little bow. A real 1930s treat, don’t you think? You know me, a pink tutu in every era is just de rigueur.

But let's delve into this fascinating moment in history. Now, 1933 was a rather dramatic year, shall we say. We had the first whispers of what would become a worldwide phenomenon, the "Great Depression" . However, as a true optimist and lover of the arts, I refuse to let these sombre times dampen my spirits, darling! Life is about the beauty and wonder we can create, even in challenging times! And what a magical and inspiring time it was to be a dancer or to see a ballet in those glamorous theatres!

It was all about glamour in 1933! The ballerinas were dancing in magnificent creations by Carcosa, a London dressmaker * renowned for their exquisitely designed tutus! These magnificent designs featured shimmering *tulle which sparkled beneath the soft light of the stage and were decorated with stunning detail. Imagine the *chattering during *intermission at the opera house about the exquisite designs and stunning choreography of the show, darling.

Of course, it was the fashion that captivated my attention. The style of 1933 was simply breathtaking. Imagine flapper dresses with their delicate, tassel-adorned necklines and beautiful, layered chiffon skirts, and then contrast it with the grandeur and majestic poise of ballet dancers on stage in *tulle, feathers and elaborate sequined designs! Truly, fashion has been dancing between practicality and lavish expression throughout the ages! Who knew, darling? I wouldn't want to leave that knowledge just on *our time line, darling! The more of our fabulous ballet and fashion histories that are available, the more of an educated, confident ballerina we can all become!

On January 31st, 1933, you'd find society ladies wearing chic dresses, perhaps in a delicate pastel pink like mine! This shade of pink wasn’t reserved for children anymore, darling. We were fully embracing this luxurious hue in all our fashion. They would accessorize with delicate pearl necklaces, fur coats (real fur, my darling!), hats with veils (because who doesn’t need a touch of mystery) and those fantastic strappy, pointy-toed shoes ! Don’t tell me we don't have style icons now who love shoes?

Imagine watching "The Sleeping Beauty" that night with an ice-cream sundae in the interval. And, remember, no matter what the historical era, ice cream always sounds delicious, right? What would my favourite pink-themed sundae be? Hmmm? Pink vanilla ice-cream with chopped, sweet strawberries, crushed meringue, sprinkled with candy pearls... Just imagine it!

As a ballet lover and a devotee to pink tutus, the fashion from this time absolutely speaks to me, darling. The delicate yet bold design and luxurious detail are simply divine. A reminder that we can draw inspiration from the past to make ourselves feel elegant, bold and a touch magical in the present! Don't forget the power of a tutu to add a little magic to any situation, my dear!

Remember to share your love for tutus, for pink, and for the magic of dance, darling! Tell me:
