Tutu Tuesday: A Trip Back in Time! (Post #5326)

Hello darlings! It's your favourite pink tutu-wearing blogger, Emma, here, and today's #TutuTuesday takes us on a grand adventure to… wait for it… 1934!

Just imagine, all those shimmering sequins and frilly fabrics – what a dream! This time travel lark, fuelled by the magic of ballet performances, has taken me to Paris, the capital of chic and sophistication, the very heart of fashion, and the land where the tutu first truly twirled its way onto the stage.

Now, while I wouldn't dream of wearing anything but my own exquisite pink creation (courtesy of the fabulous Madame Lucille on rue de la Paix - she really understands the art of the tutu!), I must confess, the styles back then were rather... dramatic!

Think voluminous tulle, lots of ruffles, and the ever-popular colour – black! Oh dear, imagine the indignity of being a ballerina and wearing such a drab colour! Not this girl, I assure you. Thankfully, those luscious shades of pink, blue, and peach were on the rise and would soon make their grand entrance in the world of ballet.

Speaking of which, on this very day in 1934, Serge Diaghilev's Ballets Russes premiered the groundbreaking Les Noces by Igor Stravinsky! I've seen a film of this and you can truly feel the excitement and emotion conveyed by the dancers. Imagine – those elegant, bold, dynamic movements paired with those striking costumes and sets. You could simply feel the energy crackling in the air! And for all you fabulous followers who can’t get enough of ballet, do catch a performance of this classic if you ever get the chance.

Travelling back in time can be quite tiring, you know. So I'm currently indulging in a luxurious cup of tea and a plate of éclairs at my favourite little patisserie - Le Chat Gourmand - where the croissants are like clouds and the service is top-notch. One could truly get used to this way of life. And after, I’m off to the Opéra Garnier – that opulent structure with the dazzling chandeliers is breathtaking, even to someone from Derbyshire like me. It simply demands you dress up for the occasion!

Talking of dressing up, I've been taking notes for our next Tutu Tuesday blog post – a peek into the glamorous wardrobes of the ballet dancers in 1934. Just imagine, they're full of silks and velvets, all designed to add a dash of drama to every twirl and jump. I'm practically bursting with excitement, I can't wait to share these fashion treasures with you. And as a little sneak peek - it seems ballet flats are making a strong debut as well, which are incredibly practical for any ballet dancer, I assure you.

I can't wait to hear your thoughts on my Tutu Tuesday adventures and how I’m making 1934 my own! Do pop on over to the www.pink-tutu.com blog for more adventures in pink.

Stay sparkly,

Emma

P.S. Don’t forget to post a picture of yourself in your favourite tutu for #TutuTuesday! I can’t wait to see your wonderful creations!
