#TutuTuesday: A Dance Back in Time! (Post 5337)
Hello my lovelies! Welcome back to my little corner of the internet, where pink tutus reign supreme and the magic of ballet twirls through every post. Today, as always, itās #TutuTuesday, and weāre going to take a trip through time, darling, to discover the fascinating story of the ballet tutu ā oh, how I adore them!
Now, grab your tea, a pink cupcake, and maybe even a twirl-worthy frock (or tutu, of course!), and letās set our sights on the year 1934 ā a truly delightful decade for all things ballet.
*(Twirling gracefully) Itās all thanks to my special, little secret, darlingsā¦ You see, Iām a bit of a time traveller! I whisk myself around the globe and back in time, and with every performance I give (Iām a *rather talented ballerina, you know!), I gain just enough to keep my journey going. What a glorious excuse to see the world, visit all the most wonderful theatres, and discover the beautiful costumes throughout the history of dance, isn't it?)
**So, letās travel back to Paris, darlingā¦
This bustling city is buzzing with creative energy. The streets are filled with dapper men and elegantly dressed women, their silhouettes reflecting the art deco trends. And where do you think all this elegant movement started, my lovelies? Of course! In the ballet studios and theatres!
On this very date, 10th April, 1934, we have a veritable treat in store: A new ballet masterpiece, "La CrƩation du Monde" (Creation of the World) by Sergei Prokofiev, is being staged at the beautiful Theatre National de l'OpƩra in Paris.
Oh, my dears, imagine the beauty! A story of life, creation, and destiny woven into every move. You can almost feel the energy and passion swirling in that theatre ā and, my lovelies, this ballet is nothing short of a revelation for tutu lovers like myself!
(A little twirl and a big smile, imagining herself in a Parisian theatre)
While I wouldn't dream of stealing any thunder from the masterful dancers performing tonight (oh, to grace the stage myself!), I must tell you: The tutus worn by the female dancers in this piece are absolutely divine! These gorgeous costumes ā a little more on the fitted side compared to those fuller romantic tutus of the past ā accentuate the dancers' grace and movement, drawing the eye to their beautiful lines. Imagine! Each twirl is a brushstroke on the canvas of the stage, creating a magical picture of life, growth, and the boundless spirit of creativity.
Isnāt it marvelous how ballet, through the centuries, has constantly innovated? This beautiful balance between the ethereal and the bold, the romantic and the avant-garde, has captured my heart!
*(Switching gears with a light laugh) *
Speaking of avant-garde, darling! Let's talk trends ā because, as all of you dear readers know, a fashion-conscious ballerina simply cannot live without keeping up with the times!
We are truly in the golden age of feminine beauty, my dears! Look at this gorgeous colour, darling! (I do have a weakness for pink!) Pink, peach, roseā¦ it's everywhere! A dash of rosy rouge, delicately applied to cheeks, the blossoming pink blooms in elaborate hats ā and a symphony of soft, vibrant pink shades adorning the elegant dresses that sway around Paris (with a soft touch of that Art Deco spirit)!
Naturally, pink also makes a smashing appearance in the world of ballet! We've seen a gradual shift in ballet costumes from the pure white of the romantic era towards more dramatic and colourful palettes. The tutu has truly embraced its role as a statement of beauty, strength, and grace.
*(Holding up a a bright pink feather boa and fluffing it playfully) *
My dear readers, you know I wouldnāt be me without encouraging everyone, everywhere, to embrace the wonder that is a tutu!
Here are just a few ways to infuse some ballet tutu flair into your own wardrobe:
- Add a splash of pink: Whether it's a soft pastel or a bolder magenta, pink adds a charming touch to any ensemble. Try a delicate silk scarf tied around your neck or a pink fascinator perched upon your curls, for a playful dose of tutu chic!
- A tutu for every occasion: Now, I know what youāre thinking - can you really wear a tutu outside of the ballet studio? Absolutely! For a truly spectacular look, try pairing a sparkly pink mini-tutu with a simple black dress and chic heels! Or for a daytime event, consider a classic white cotton tutu with a whimsical lace top and a statement necklace - youāll definitely stand out, darling!
- Let your inner ballerina shine: If a full tutu feels too bold for you, take inspiration from the elegance of the classic tutu! Try a billowing, feminine skirt or dress, or a simple, flowing top. Just a touch of ātutuā inspiration will set you apart.
But don't worry about conforming to trends, darlings ā it's the expression of individual style that really makes a statement! I adore seeing how different women take inspiration from the world of ballet. I remember one day while strolling down the streets of Paris, I noticed the most delightful sight: a lovely lady in her sixties walking past in a flowy, pale pink chiffon dress and a charming, feather-trimmed straw hat. As she passed me, she let out the most magnificent, elegant twirl, showing off her delightful dress to full effect! There she was - a walking, breathing, tutu inspiration. Just as I said, darling ā every woman can channel her inner ballerina!
Remember:
(Twirling once again with her finger on her lips in a quiet pose )
Our ultimate inspiration is not the costume itself, darling, but the art of grace, fluidity, and beautiful movement.
Until next #TutuTuesday, I leave you with a quote that I think beautifully encapsulates what the ballet, tutus, and true elegance are all about:
"Itās not just about how you look. Itās about how you move.ā
And for you dear readers, remember that it's how we move through the world - our poise, our grace, our kindness - that creates a truly dazzling impression!
*Stay lovely, keep your tutus spinning, and let your spirit fly! *
With pinkest love, Emma x
