#TutuTuesday: Ballet Tutu History - 4th June, 1935 - Post #5397

Hello darlings! It's Emma here, your resident pink tutu enthusiast, bringing you another blast from the past with my #TutuTuesday Ballet Tutu History! I'm so excited to share with you the fabulous world of ballet fashion from back in 1935, and believe me, you'll want to twirl along!

Today I'm stepping out of my time machine, freshly dressed in a frothy pink tulle masterpiece, and landing in the heart of the bustling theatre district in London! Can you imagine the excitement?

1935 was a time of great change and development, particularly for ballet. This year was a huge one for the dance world. We were starting to see the emergence of the 'Romantic Ballet,' a new movement of delicate steps and light-as-air costumes that captivated audiences.

As I weave through the vibrant streets, it feels like the entire city is alive with music and dance. The aroma of freshly-baked pastries and freshly cut flowers mixes with the lingering scent of expensive perfume – what a joy!

It's not all about fashion and frolics, of course! This was a very busy time for the Royal Opera House, the very place I'm about to visit to catch a glimpse of ballet history in the making.

I hear the name 'Alicia Markova' whisper on the wind, and there she is, the renowned ballerina and the most enchanting woman on the planet, grace personified. Just imagine, the privilege of being one of the first audiences to witness her breathtaking moves. It’s pure magic!

While I'm absolutely smitten with the gorgeous artistry, I have to admit, the tutus weren’t as dazzlingly fluffy as the ones we wear today! Back then, tutus were much shorter, more closely fitted and didn't have the voluminous tiers we associate with ballet today. They were all about showcasing the dancers' strength and skill, giving a glimpse of their beautifully-shaped legs and strong posture.

Think shorter, smoother, and with less fabric.

You can almost imagine the gasps of awe and admiration as those ballerina’s pirouetted gracefully. The shorter style allowed for more fluidity and gave them an effortless freedom of movement, perfect for showcasing their talent.

Imagine, I'm just metres away from a timeless, classic masterpiece: "Giselle." Can you imagine the costumes, the stunning performances and the enchanting music!

But wait, here's the exciting part! The influence of the 'Romantic Ballet' didn't just stop with the stage. The elegant lines of these ballerinas were slowly filtering into fashion itself! Think flowy silk skirts, cinched waists and delicate floral patterns, all in delightful hues of blush and ivory! Oh, to have a closet bursting with such loveliness!

So, that's my glimpse into ballet history from a most stylish time, darlings! It was a real whirlwind tour of fashion and creativity. I'll keep you updated on all the latest ballet happenings here on www.pink-tutu.com every week!

Don't forget to show off your pink tutu pride! I can't wait to see what you're rocking on social media – share your tutu selfies with me!

Love,

Emma.

P.S. Let's talk more about tutus! Leave a comment and tell me what you think of this new Romantic era for the tutu!
