#TutuTuesday: A Whirl Through Time - June 25th, 1935! 🩰✨

Hello lovelies, and welcome back to another glorious #TutuTuesday! 🦩 It's your favourite pink-clad time-travelling ballerina here, Emma, and today we're venturing back to June 25th, 1935. This is blog post number 5400, by the way, can you believe it?!

Let's raise a glass of sparkling lemonade (or a celebratory strawberry milkshake, because why not!) to celebrate five thousand four hundred weeks of exploring the wonderful world of ballet history and, of course, tutus! And speaking of tutus, did you know June 25th, 1935 was a huge day for the ballet world? But before we dive into all that fabulousness, let's rewind a little and chat about how I got here, darling!

A Journey by Train to Paris, Chérie

The aroma of freshly baked croissants, the sound of excited chatter in French, the chic Parisian street style...it’s my kind of Tuesday! This week, I hopped on the Orient Express and found myself in the heart of the City of Lights. Paris is, as you all know, one of the greatest centres for ballet in the world!

You see, my dears, to keep up my time-traveling fund for all these amazing adventures, I spend my days dancing, taking classes, and of course, seeing those absolutely fabulous ballet shows! Nothing quite compares to seeing world-class ballet in a beautiful Parisian theatre. The costumes, the atmosphere, the energy! Pure magic, I tell you. 💫

And, oh, the clothes! Paris is a fashion dream, darling! After catching the most brilliant performance at the Palais Garnier – oh my goodness, the scenery! – I went shopping, finding the most incredible pink feather boa and a velvet head band with tiny sequined flowers, perfect for a *tres chic look, wouldn’t you say?

Tutu Takeover – 1935! 🩰

Now, back to our very special day in 1935, darlings! This is the year where tutus really made their big impact, especially on the fashion scene. Picture it, my loves, the delicate tulle of a ballet tutu, fluttering as the dancers twirl and leap on stage, creating an absolute symphony of movement and beauty.

What a contrast, eh, from the heavy layered costumes of old! Remember those? Talk about sweltering! But now, with lighter fabrics and these oh-so-pretty tutus, dancers could move more freely, which led to, well, more dramatic dancing, darling! More pirouettes! More grand jetés! It's all thanks to those glorious tutus, wouldn't you say?

This was also the year when tutus took a bold leap into mainstream fashion! They started popping up everywhere – from magazine covers to Parisian street scenes, my love! And can you blame people, really? Those puffy, pretty tutus were the epitome of feminine style!

But why all this tutu madness in 1935? Let's chat about one big influence: The Ballets Russes.

Remember those talented Russian dancers and choreographers who took the world by storm, darling? It was their amazing performances, with their captivating stories and costumes, that fuelled this tutu craze! And, oh, let’s not forget those exquisite designs by Léon Bakst, that absolute fashion icon! Those creations were pure artistic brilliance, like beautiful dreams painted in colour. 💖 They revolutionized the stage, and brought the elegant silhouette of the tutu into the public eye like never before!

What Happened On June 25th? 🗓️

Speaking of the Ballets Russes, June 25th, 1935 saw the opening of their "Cinderella" ballet in New York, at the Metropolitan Opera House. Imagine the grand sets, the intricate costumes, the breathtaking dances... I can just picture it, darling!

And let’s not forget about the music. What would ballet be without the captivating tunes that fill our souls? In 1935, one composer in particular made his mark in the ballet world. Sergei Prokofiev - his work brought a fresh, modern sound to the ballets. His "Cinderella" score is truly timeless and adds so much to the performance, don’t you think?

So, as we celebrate the incredible influence of 1935, what have we learned? Well, it’s about being brave, pushing boundaries, and embracing those creative sparks! That's what made those fabulous Ballets Russes performances so remarkable. And it’s the spirit we should carry in everything we do.

My Tutu Takeaway – It’s all about inspiration!

Whether you're a dancer, a fashion enthusiast, or simply someone who appreciates the finer things in life, I hope today's post inspired you!
