Tutu Tuesday: A Trip to 1935! #5407
Hello, darling dancers! It’s Emma here, your favourite pink-tutu-clad time traveller, and it’s time for another Tutu Tuesday! Today we're venturing back in time, boarding the Orient Express, and landing in a land where glamour and dance are all the rage: 1935!
This week’s journey is extra special, not just for the vintage fashions but also for the significance of the date: 13th August, 1935. You see, on this very day, the legendary “The Bartered Bride” by Bedřich Smetana premiered in London. Can you imagine, darling? A grand opera performance at Covent Garden, one of the world’s most celebrated opera houses!
Now, imagine yourself, twirling onto the stage in your pink tulle confection. The lights are bright, the audience is captivated, and you, you’re bringing the story of this beautiful Czech opera to life! You feel the rhythm of the music thrum through your bones, every move flowing effortlessly with the melody. Ah, isn't that a dream?
Speaking of dreams, have you ever been to the Royal Opera House at Covent Garden, my dears? The very thought makes me want to swirl around in a grand ballroom! The architecture, the history, the anticipation - just heavenly! This was the epitome of style back in 1935, and it’s still so grand today!
This week, our tutu history takes us back to the heart of the ballet world. And wouldn't you know, the ladies of this era wore the most fabulous tutu styles! The romantic era is full of enchanting tulle masterpieces, from soft, wispy tulle with multiple layers, creating ethereal clouds, to dramatic full skirts with dramatic movement, so very captivating.
You see, these tutus are not just pieces of clothing, they're a story waiting to be told. Every rustle of tulle, every swirl of fabric, they evoke a tale, a character, a whole universe of emotions. That’s why I love my #TutuTuesday so much, my darlings, it allows us to experience history, not just through the stories, but through the sheer brilliance of these iconic garments.
But our history lesson doesn't stop there! You can even see the influence of the ballet on the wider fashion world back in the 30s. I'm talking about flowing chiffon evening gowns, the beautiful elegance of silk scarves and those ever so dramatic feathered boas. They were inspired by the elegance of dancers!
Oh, don't even get me started on the shoes, darling! From satin pumps to elegant strapped sandals, fashion back in 1935 was all about graceful feminine movement, reflecting the magic of ballet. Just look at the sleek silhouettes of the dresses and skirts! Those are not only perfect for dancing in but look wonderful even for everyday errands! It truly shows that every woman can embrace her inner dancer.
Now, my lovely pink-tutu lovers, don't think that I'm just all about vintage! I, of course, love to be on the cutting edge of fashion too. After all, who says ballet-inspired attire needs to be just for the stage? Just yesterday I found this adorable ballet-inspired dress at Harrods! Pink, of course!
The beauty of the tutu is its versatility, it's timeless and constantly evolving! So, whether you're shopping for a costume, a statement piece, or just a way to feel like a ballerina, a tutu is always the right choice! And with a touch of pink? Even better, my dear!
I'm always dreaming of what amazing tutus we'll find next! Maybe a shimmering sequined number from the 70s, a dramatic feathered design from the 20s, or perhaps even a revolutionary futuristic tutu from the future itself? Who knows? The possibilities are truly endless, darlings.
That's it for this week, lovelies. Don't forget, I love to see your tutu inspirations, and the stories behind your tutus. So send in your pictures, your stories, and tell me about the beautiful things you've found this week! Remember, a pink tutu is more than just a piece of clothing. It's a celebration of style, dance, history, and all things beautiful. Let your creativity soar!
Until next Tuesday, darling,
Emma xx
