#TutuTuesday Ballet Tutu History: A Whirlwind in 1936!

Hello darlings, and welcome back to another instalment of your favourite ballet blog - Pink-Tutu! It's Tuesday, so that means it's #TutuTuesday - the day we take a delightful trip down the history of our beloved tutus. And this week we're twirling back to January 21st, 1936!

Gosh, my lovely readers, this date is positively overflowing with glamorous events - I could barely contain myself as I time-travelled over from Derbyshire! And how lucky am I? Today's events take place in the most enchanting cities: Paris and London! Let's gather around for a spot of tea, slip on our most fabulous pink tutus (my darling readers, mine's a fluffy, dreamy lilac number) and let's waltz through the wonders of 1936!

Paris: Ballet, Boutiques, and Beautiful Fashion!

Paris is ALWAYS an adventure, but especially on January 21st 1936! Just imagine: The Opéra de Paris is showcasing a dazzling performance of "The Sleeping Beauty"! Oh, the tutus! I simply had to attend. You just wouldn't believe the stunning costumes! Imagine: cascading layers of tulle, intricately sewn beads and glittering jewels...all with the most gorgeous shade of pastel pink - of course. Such artistry!

Speaking of beautiful things, Paris is an absolute treasure trove of fabulous fashion, even in 1936. Think of it: elegant flapper dresses with drop-waist designs, chic cloche hats, and beautiful furs, oh, so elegant! Oh, I even discovered a charming little shop on the Rue de Rivoli called "Au Printemps" (which, wouldn't you know it, means 'Spring'! A bit of poetic coincidence, don't you think?). Imagine it: elegant gowns with layers of lace, exquisitely beaded, and oh my, such gorgeous shoes! I had to buy a pair of glittering, silvery heels - the perfect accent for a stunning, vintage outfit!

London: A Night of Theatrical Magic!

And from Paris, our train takes us straight to the heart of London! There's so much to see here too, but oh, do you know what happened on this date in 1936? The one and only, the absolutely delightful Vivien Leigh took to the stage at London's Old Vic Theatre in "The Seagull"! Imagine, she played Nina Zarechnaya! Oh, the elegance of it all! Even back then, Vivien Leigh had the most charming stage presence! It's no wonder she's a legend! I mean, a woman as fashionable as her in a pink tutu would be utterly magnificent.

Now, it's time for you darlings to tell me, what are your favourite fashion and ballet finds from the 1930s? Don't be shy - send your ideas to me at This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. and be sure to post your pictures and use #TutuTuesday - after all, the world always needs a bit more pink!

That's all for this week darlings. Be sure to pop by next week for a fresh new ballet history adventure!
