#TutuTuesday: Ballet Tutu History – 19th May 1936 (Post #5447)

Hello my darlings! Welcome back to another Tuesday and another dive into the enchanting history of our beloved tutus! I'm Emma, your tutu-loving time traveller, and this week we're taking a trip back to the glorious 1930s, a decade bursting with style, sophistication, and oh-so-much tutu inspiration!

Paris – The City of Light and Tutu Delights

This week's adventure takes us to the heart of the ballet world: Paris! Oh, how I love this city – the cobbled streets, the charming cafes, and the air practically humming with creative energy. It's a city where tutus are practically a second skin, where ballet is an integral part of life. Today, however, we’re taking a peek into a particular ballet that would captivate Paris that very evening.

A Night at the Opera

Can you imagine the thrill? Stepping into the plush velvet seats of the Palais Garnier, the grandeur of the Parisian Opera House. Imagine the anticipation of the music building, the anticipation for the graceful pirouettes and dramatic leaps, and the shimmering, flowing fabrics as they come to life on the stage!

That’s what Parisian audiences were experiencing on this date in 1936! It was a gala performance of “Giselle”, one of the most iconic ballets ever written. The tragic tale of a young village girl, the heartbroken Giselle, who falls prey to the machinations of a deceptive nobleman is woven into a magical story of love, deceit, and a tragic but poignant death. Oh, the drama!

But what truly takes centre stage, are the beautiful costumes! Imagine the sight of the ghostly Wilis in their white tutus – a delicate symbol of innocence, a ghostly echo of Giselle’s own tragedy. It's truly breathtaking! It’s this delicate elegance, the exquisite artistry of the tutus, that truly makes “Giselle” such an enduring and mesmerising ballet, and Paris a city forever on my mind when I think of a perfect ballerina outfit!

Tutus and Train Travel – What a Treat!

For me, Paris holds a very special place in my heart. After all, it’s one of the easiest and most stylish ways to travel back in time. I always adore the glamour of catching a train to Paris. I just love stepping into that vintage train carriage, letting the gentle rhythmic click-clack of the wheels and the bustling activity at the station melt away as I lose myself in my history books.

My latest pink tutu (it’s a new design, I’m so in love!) pairs beautifully with my 1930s inspired hat, all perfectly matched with my travel essentials (you know how much I love a little style for a trip!). Honestly, traveling is always so much better in a tutu, just don't get your silk skirt caught in the train doors!

A Timeless Inspiration – My Latest Ballet Adventures

Speaking of travel, my ballet journey recently took me to London. I simply must tell you all about it! I was lucky enough to catch the ballet “La Sylphide”. A breathtakingly beautiful performance of lightness, ethereal grace, and captivating romance. I simply fell head over heels! You just have to see this captivating ballet to truly understand why!

I also had to go for a peek at some incredible outfits. Of course, you know how I love shopping for tutu-inspiration, and let me tell you – London truly is a wonderland of gorgeous outfits! My heart went pitter-patter at the dazzling selection of pink tutus on display – there are simply so many amazing styles out there. Oh, it was so very difficult to choose just one!

The real joy, however, is watching those wonderful dancers glide across the stage in their sparkling tutus! Watching those performers, that joy and passion shining through, gives me such incredible inspiration. Just thinking about their incredible performance sends shivers down my spine. Truly breathtaking!

Spreading the Pink Tutu Love

Of course, a true lover of tutus like me can't stay silent about her passion! I’m so lucky to be able to share this incredible passion for ballet history with you. You simply must wear a pink tutu! It's about embracing a world of dance and grace. It’s about expressing your individuality through a truly timeless and beautiful garment! If my journey can inspire just one more soul to discover the wonder of the ballet, my heart will soar!

Well, darlings, that’s it for this week. But before you go, remember: every week on Tuesday is #TutuTuesday! Don’t miss out on these fun journeys through history with me.

Remember to pop back next week and check out what amazing story I find. And always remember – the only rule to wearing a tutu is that there are no rules! Be your fabulous self, and have fun twirling!

Lots of love, Emma xx
