Tutu Tuesday: A Peek Into Ballet's Past, 1936-09-22! (Blog Post #5465)

Hello, my lovely Tutu Tribe! Welcome back to my little corner of the internet where tutus reign supreme! Today we're taking a grand leap back in time to September 22nd, 1936. The date may not immediately scream "ballet history", but believe me, my dears, it was a significant day in the world of dance!

I've just arrived back from a whirlwind trip to Paris - my oh my, the fashion there is simply exquisite! The chic Parisians are always ahead of the curve when it comes to style, and trust me, I snagged a few adorable tutu-inspired outfits I can't wait to share with you in a future post. But first, let's delve into the tutu time capsule...

1936! That's the year ballet legend Margot Fonteyn took to the stage at the Covent Garden Opera House in London, in the heart of the ballet world, performing the swan queen role in Swan Lake alongside Serge Lifar. This legendary performance, now just a whispered story in ballet's history, was a big deal - the embodiment of grace, elegance, and passion, and it brought the ballet world to a hush. I simply had to go back in time and see it!

Just imagine: The orchestra is playing, the stage is set, and there she is - Margot Fonteyn, a shimmering vision in a billowing tutu. My dears, the way her tutu caught the light! I bet it must have swished and swayed like a summer breeze through a meadow. I bet it made you dream. Oh, it just fills me with so much delight to imagine the atmosphere!

So, what was the ballet scene like back then, you ask? Well, 1936 was a time of transformation in ballet - it was a move towards more expressive, fluid dance and the tutus were evolving, too! Imagine a* short tutu, swirling with soft, layered tulle. * They would have called them ā€œromanticā€ then, but today, we'd be saying *ā€œdivineā€!*

You know me - I adore a little tutu inspiration! So, I had to explore the boutiques in Paris to find a touch of this 1936 glamour. My latest acquisition is a darling white tutu that's just begging for some vintage-inspired accessorizing!

And speaking of glamour, 1936 also saw the launch of a whole new era for fashion! Coco Chanel was bringing her bold yet understated elegance to the world, with her signature Little Black Dress, which quickly became the cornerstone of any stylish wardrobe! Now thatā€™s lasting style, donā€™t you think?

For me, itā€™s not just about tutus - it's about finding those timeless pieces that truly express who you are - that bring joy to every moment.

So, whether it's a classic tutu or a Coco Chanel-inspired ensemble, my advice is to embrace the joy of finding something that sparks your inner magic!

That's all for this week, my darlings! Keep your tutus twirling! And remember: every day is a good day to put on a pink tutu.

Until next Tuesday,

Emma

P.S. Did you know September 22, 1936, also marked the opening day of the New York Worldā€™s Fair, "The Fair of Tomorrow?" *Tutu travel note: you should definitely head to New York and soak in the retro atmosphere for your next adventure! *

XOXO
