#TutuTuesday: Ballet Tutu History - A Blast from the Past! (Post 5474)
Welcome back to Pink-Tutu.com, my fellow twirling enthusiasts! It's #TutuTuesday and you know what that means - a journey into the fabulous history of the tutu!
This week, we're stepping back in time to the 24th of November, 1936. I'm travelling by train to Paris - can you imagine?! Such glamour. There's no way I'm getting a train home without a new Parisian hat! It's my dream!
The Ballet Tutu's Evolution: A Story of Grace and GlamourOkay, so you're thinking, 'Emma, it's the 24th of November 1936 - what’s going on?' Well, the world of ballet is never boring, my darlings! It was around this time that some really iconic designs for tutus started to appear, changing the way we viewed these pieces of art. Imagine this: sleek, smooth, flowing lines in beautiful silk and satin.
This was a period of experimentation, and it meant new designs were starting to crop up, and with it new colours and textures. Imagine my delight! In my travels through time, I always check out the fashion! Now imagine an extravagant tutu, swirling with feathers, silk, and a myriad of fabrics! It's enough to make my little heart leap.
*What a Time to Be in Paris! *Oh, Paris! Imagine, it’s the land of fashion! If I'm honest, it’s probably the best place for a ballerina in time. This is the age of famous ballets - classics! We are all in for a treat!
This is the same year a famous British ballerina, Alicia Markova, was featured in Les Sylphides and Giselle at the Palais Garnier! Now, that was the event of the year!
Remember what The Rite of Spring was all about?! It was just three years before. Ballet, in the late 1930s, was changing so much and fast!
The dancers are making such changes and creating so many wonderful dances! From Serge Diaghilev’s Ballets Russes and Marie Rambert, through to Frederick Ashton, you just knew the stage was going to be bursting with creativity! We should be celebrating these dancers so much! They've given us a real sense of glamour. They make me want to twirl around in the streets, and you know what - who's going to stop me!
The Dance Goes On:There are still ballet shows and classes in this era, but remember, it wasn't just ballet being developed! Imagine: There was still the amazing development of jazz dancing in New York!
But you know me: My first love will always be ballet! It’s what makes me tick! It makes me smile, it inspires me, it’s part of who I am!
Don’t Forget Pink-Tutu.com, DarlingsNow I’m just going to head off for some Parisian fashion inspiration!
Let's chat and keep up with what's happening on Pink-Tutu.com #TutuTuesday - let me know if you like what you see - or any feedback you may have on my travels, what we can do, or how we can do it better, don’t be shy.
Until next time, keep twirling!
