Tutu Tuesday: #5478 - Twirling Back in Time to 1936!

Hello my lovely tutu-tastic readers! Emma here, back again for another Tutu Tuesday! It's such a joy to see so many of you embracing the pink tutu life - you know, my lifelong mission of getting the whole world twirling in pink. And honestly, it's working, it's working! Every day I see more and more delightful ladies sporting their pink tutus, be it on a day out shopping, at a ballet performance (obvs!), or even just chilling at home – we all need a bit of pink magic in our lives, don't we?

Back to the Past, Again!

Today we're whizzing back to December 22nd, 1936, to a time where fashion was flowing, elegance was in the air, and, you guessed it, tutus were still taking centre stage! Imagine if you can: The Bolshoi Ballet is performing in Moscow, a city full of dazzling artistic life. Just picture it - shimmering silk, grand theatres, and beautiful music… ahhh, it gives me goosebumps just thinking about it!

Now, the year 1936 was quite the turning point for the tutu world. The world of dance was moving into a modern age, with a new focus on power and athleticism. Tutus, still very much an iconic part of the dance world, started to become more fitted, streamlined and revealing of the dancer's muscles and movement. Think tour de force, my dear readers, think tour de force!

A Look Back at the Time: Dancing Divas and Fashionable Trends

Back then, a lot of the talk centred around two lovely ballet legends: Margot Fonteyn (she just oozed grace, did she not?), and the very talented Galina Ulanova, both icons who defined this era of dance! They, and countless other ballerinas, wore these more structured, streamlined tutus – a sign of the changing times.

Speaking of changing times, the 1930s were a time of huge upheaval in fashion, particularly for women. The influence of the Art Deco movement was everywhere you looked: think flowing geometric shapes, bold colours and luxurious fabrics. And this, darling, had a very distinct effect on ballet costumes – tutus started becoming more architectural, using sharp angles and intricate lines to create stunning visual effects.

The Magic of Theatre

I, myself, always find theatre, particularly a grand performance like The Bolshoi, a fantastic place for ballet-inspired fashion inspiration. There are these grand balls in grand theaters with women dressed up like dazzling fairytale characters! It’s no wonder why these were huge, and, indeed, are huge to this very day, sources of inspiration for me in putting together my tutus. Oh my gosh! I am completely in my element in these settings and, you know, even wearing my own pink tutu, I never feel like I am out of place.

Shopping for a Tutu-ful Adventure!

As a dedicated tutudess, naturally I can't pass up an opportunity to hit up some vintage stores! If only we could travel back in time to visit shops back then! Oh, wouldn’t it be divine! I bet you would find stunning beaded gowns, shimmering evening dresses, and, yes, my loves, a dazzling array of tutus – perfectly fitted to showcase every twirl and leap. Can you just imagine? It's my dream to actually go into a store in this era. Imagine just being there to see, smell, and touch! How fabulous would that be?

Finding Your Pink Power

It's a real joy for me to share this passion for the art of dance and fashion with you. We all deserve a bit of twirling in our lives! So, when you find yourself feeling down or need a little bit of magic, remember that your pink tutu is waiting. Just grab it, and dance your heart out!

See you all next week!

Your ever-twirling, pink tutu-loving Emma. X

P.S. If you happen to be in a more modern-day theatre, don't be afraid to bring out your own pink tutu and celebrate the timeless magic of dance and style. Because remember, the power of pink and the joy of the twirl, is a timeless thing, my darlings! Just like that delicious, shimmering tutus, these never go out of fashion!
