Tutu Tuesday: #5482 - A Parisian Dream! (1937-01-19)

Bonjour mes amis! Emma here, your favourite tutu-clad time traveller! Today we're stepping back in time to a particularly fabulous era – the roaring 1930s!

Just imagine: cobblestone streets lined with chic cafes, the air buzzing with jazz, and the undeniable glamour of the Paris Fashion Week. Yes, that's where I found myself this week, all aflutter with my pinkest tutu and ready to take on the chicest city in the world. And trust me, dear readers, Paris was bursting with fashion and beauty – even for ballet!

This particular date – January 19th, 1937 – was quite a whirlwind of cultural delight. The Paris Opera was ablaze with the enchanting Swan Lake, a ballet I absolutely adore! The ballerinas, gracefully pirouetting in their billowing tutus, brought tears to my eyes with their captivating performance. It’s simply breathtaking how those tutus capture the movement and tell stories in the way that only fabric can!

But I couldn’t resist sneaking off after the show to explore the Parisian streets. They were just oozing with inspiration, and honestly, everything seemed a bit more dramatic in the way the Parisians dressed. You could practically smell the romance of the era!

Now, I was on a mission! My eyes darted around, searching for something, anything that sparked that tutu-tastic joy I crave. After all, what's a time traveller without a few sartorial souvenirs? The chic boutiques in the chicest district of the city were oh so divine! My shopping spree was an absolute riot of fabric, lace, and sequins, all adding up to one fabulous tutu I just had to have.

The Belle Époque had definitely left its mark on Parisian fashion, and honestly, it all felt so quintessentially elegant! I think it’s how the French can do elegant like no other – but with that little edge of playfulness. I imagine these chic Parisian women, strolling down the streets with their hair styled in bouncy waves and flowing tutus. Who can say “No” to a chic ensemble of tutus and fabulous hairstyles?

This day out just makes my heart sing!

I’m going to share with you some of the fashion I saw on my 1930s adventure that have been added to my latest Pink-Tutu Designs line for all of you fabulously stylish ladies. Oh, did I mention I have my Pink Tutu London Boutique, nestled just off Leicester Square? My collection really embodies the Parisian glamour and I'm so excited for you to see what we've created.

Here’s what is in my Parisian 1930s Collection!

  1. The Parisian Plume: Imagine an elegant tutu in soft shades of peach and blush pink, with layers of feather tulle that gently flutter as you move. A simple black velvet ribbon around the waist, with delicate sequins around the edges – voila! La vie en rose!

  2. The Café au Lait Tutu: The Parisian streets just call for a delicate lace trim to add to a simple pink tulle design, with an emphasis on layers for this classic, romantic tutu. Just think of all those delectable pastel tones in the heart of the 1930s French countryside. My oh my! L’élégance! L' élégance!.

  3. Le Bal du Printemps: In all of its sheer perfection, I love the classic look and I can see our little dancers all dreaming in it. A pink tutu in a perfect “strawberry” shade. Oh my! You know I had to make sure all of my Tutu-Tastic collection included pink.

The magic of Parisian style, with its attention to detail and timeless elegance, will forever inspire my designs. And it really makes me see that no matter what decade we are in, the pink tutu always holds its ground as an iconic fashion piece.

Oh, one more little tip, dear readers! Did you know that a lot of famous ballerina fashion brands like Capezio had stores in Paris in the 1930s? That just shows how popular the tutu was back then! You really couldn’t get through this era without it! I feel I have to pop to Paris and look around and see what’s on offer now. A girl has to do some research. Just imagine. So much inspiration!

And just remember, there’s no need to travel through time to embrace the joy of the tutu! Simply pop over to our Pink-Tutu online shop to explore our latest collection! Oh, and feel free to post your #TutuTuesday pics on my social media! We all know it’s just a little bit more fun wearing pink tutus – at least in my book!

Au revoir, mes amis! And until next time, may your life be filled with all things beautiful and pink!

Emma, your time-travelling tutu enthusiast!

P.S. Did you know that January 19th, 1937, was also the date of a big jazz festival in Paris? Now wouldn't that have been fun! Perhaps a pink tutu could have made an appearance there too! 😉
