#TutuTuesday: Ballet Tutu History - February 9th, 1937 (Post #5485)

Hello lovelies! Welcome back to Pink-Tutu.com for another #TutuTuesday. I’m your favourite time-travelling, pink-tutu-wearing blogger, Emma, back with another dip into the glorious history of ballet’s most iconic garment!

This week, we're swirling back to February 9th, 1937. It's a rather special date, as it's the anniversary of the legendary Ballet Russes taking to the stage in London. Now, you might be thinking, "Emma, that's awfully grand - surely not everyone wears tutus?" Oh darling, you'd be wrong! This was a huge deal, with everyone flocking to see Diaghilev's ballet troupe in their extravagant costumes. We're talking feather boas, shimmering silk, and yes, you guessed it... beautiful, billowing tutus!

Now, imagine stepping onto a bustling train in Derbyshire, leaving the cosy comfort of my quaint cottage, and whisking off to the buzzing metropolis of London, where all the chicest and most fashionable folk would be! Oh, the thrill! To be amongst the elite, to witness the very cutting-edge of dance, all thanks to my own unique time-travelling skills and, of course, the magical power of the pink tutu.

London was brimming with the most dazzling couture back then, and the fashion scene was just as important as the actual ballet! Oh, how I long for that era. To imagine those magnificent ball gowns, with their delicate lace and flowing silks. To imagine the gentlemen in their dashing suits, their pocket watches gleaming... And the ladies! With their elegant coiffures, their dainty hats, and of course, those delicate jewels adorning their decolletages! Ah, fashion has never quite reached such elegance since!

Of course, nothing could ever beat the iconic image of the Ballet Russes dancers, flitting and leaping across the stage in their superb tutus! Their fluffy tutus were almost as famous as their choreography. They were just so breathtakingly feminine. Think layers of tulle, each layer cascading downwards, creating a stunning, ethereal silhouette.

That kind of billowing, flowing tutu is exactly what we'd be rocking today! Oh, I adore their simplicity. Imagine that whirl of fabric as they twirl, like a delicate pink cloud caught in a gust of wind! It was a truly enchanting spectacle. They created a world of wonder, making the most mundane routine come alive, transporting their audience to a realm of magic and fantasy.

Just like me, darling! Everything I wear inspires a magical sense of wonder in those around me. I think you'll agree that the pink tutu has become as much about personality and expression as it is about ballet. It allows us to unleash our inner fairy and show the world our love for dance, freedom, and ahem, maybe even just a little bit of pink fluffiness!

Today, as we commemorate the 1937 Ballet Russes, I encourage you all to step into your inner ballerina! What better way to honour the spirit of these incredible dancers than by donning a fabulous pink tutu of your own and twirling your heart out? You can go for a classic ballerina look, with a simple pink tulle tutu and a chic ballet bun, or maybe try something a bit more adventurous. Perhaps a tulle skirt layered over a pink petticoat? The sky’s the limit when it comes to personalizing your tutu and expressing your own individual style!

A pink tutu for everyone, that's my dream, darling!

Remember, a pink tutu isn’t just a garment; it's a symbol of grace, freedom, and boundless creativity! So go ahead, ladies, embrace the spirit of #TutuTuesday and let your inner ballerina shine. I'll be watching all your beautiful posts - be sure to tag #PinkTutu, so I don't miss out!

Until next week, lovelies! Emma xx
