#TutuTuesday: A Whirl Through Time - 1937, Darling!
Hello darlings! It's Emma here, your friendly neighbourhood tutu enthusiast, back with another #TutuTuesday! 💅🩰 This week, we're taking a little trip back to March 23rd, 1937. 🚂 Oh, the glamour! Can you picture it? I just imagine myself, all decked out in my pinkest tulle, gliding through a crowd of beautifully dressed ladies at the ballet. (Perhaps I’ll even take inspiration from this era to add a few ruffles to my usual pink tutu!)
As we celebrate the 5491st post in my #TutuTuesday Ballet Tutu History series here on www.pink-tutu.com, let's get those time travel goggles ready. (I use all the profits from my tutu performances to fund these jaunts!) This is what happened in the world of dance, fashion and, of course, TUTUS, back in '37!
A New Age of Ballet Elegance:
Imagine the theatre: lighting is dim, the orchestra is tuning their instruments, and the air buzzes with anticipation. The spotlight falls on the stage and… it’s absolutely breathtaking. I’m talking gorgeous tutus, ladies, elegant tutus! They're all about that flowing, ethereal look with sweeping lines and graceful curves. Imagine tulle that seems to shimmer in the stage lights, paired with costumes adorned with intricate embroidery and delicate beads.
1937 marked the golden age of ballet's return to Europe, after a few years of, dare I say, less extravagant times. Imagine those sumptuous dance outfits with swirling tiers of delicate fabric. It's almost like you can see them move across the stage, just thinking about it! It was all about pure elegance and graceful movement—exactly my kind of inspiration.
Fashion that Floats Like a Tutu:
Now, let's take a quick step off the stage and explore the world outside. In the world of fashion, think about beautiful, sweeping feminine silhouettes with full, billowing skirts, tight-waisted bodices, and an air of effortless grace. Ladies looked so sophisticated with their hair up in elegant, yet manageable, styles. I could even picture some fabulous tutus being worn out and about by some of the more daring fashionistas! Think Audrey Hepburn - oh, I just wish I was there in those fashion days to see the most stunning ladies. I’m imagining an elegant pink tutu worn under a billowing white dress for afternoon tea or lunch with friends! Sighs What would it have been like to live in such a time?!
Time for a Peek into History:
Let's not forget that 1937 had its share of historical events too. While the dance scene was flourishing, the world held its breath as war loomed on the horizon and the United Kingdom faced uncertainty. I believe fashion and beauty help in times like these - even a pretty pink tutu could make you smile.
Looking forward to our own #TutuTuesday!
That’s all for this week’s #TutuTuesday! 🩰 What are your favorite ballet performances? Tell me all about them in the comments section! You can follow me on our @pink-tutu account on all your favorite platforms – and we can dream of tutus together! Next Tuesday we will go back further in time to explore what was going on back then in ballet fashion. Now excuse me - I just spotted a pair of absolutely gorgeous shoes in the window of the shoe shop down the road and, oh my word! There’s a shop selling a most charming, frilled pink tutu! See you all soon darlings - happy tutu dreaming until then!
