#TutuTuesday: A Trip Back in Time to 1937! 🩰

Hey there, tutu-lovers! Welcome back to another edition of #TutuTuesday on pink-tutu.com! It's me, Emma, your time-travelling fashionista, bringing you the most enchanting tales of the history of the tutu!

This week, we're waltzing our way back to 1937, a year bursting with colour and elegance. Just picture this: shimmering silk dresses, sleek bobs, and a vibrant social scene where dancing was a national pastime! The 1930s were truly a golden age for dance, and for the tutu, too!

Travelling Through Time:

For this particular adventure, I hopped on a train straight from Derbyshire, the charming rolling hills swapped for the glamorous streets of Paris. My, my, what a vibrant, exciting place! There's a thrill to travelling by train, especially when your destination is packed with beautiful shops and the buzz of creativity. And wouldn't you know it, it was just a hop, skip, and a twirl away to the Palais Garnier!

This grand opera house, known for its breathtaking architecture, was also the beating heart of ballet. On June 8th, 1937, the legendary Ballets Russes were performing at the Palais Garnier, their breathtaking spectacle captivating audiences with the graceful flow of their movements, intricate choreography, and yes, you guessed it, some magnificent tutus!

A Glimpse of 1937:

Now, when we talk tutus in 1937, it's all about romantic ballet, full of fluttering chiffon, airy lightness, and, of course, that unmistakable pink! The tutu of the time, however, was a far cry from the romantic tutus we see on stage today. Think short, full skirts that grazed the knee, often trimmed with frills or even lace, creating an adorable yet demure silhouette.

But, it was this very demure silhouette that truly brought a dancer's artistry to life, letting their every graceful move radiate across the stage, as delicate as a butterfly.

The Ballets Russes had a huge influence on the tutu. They moved away from the dramatic length and extravagant ruffles that were the trend in the early 1900s and embraced a softer, more delicate design that emphasised the dancer's every movement. This became a truly defining era for the romantic tutu, laying the foundations for the classic looks we cherish today.

A Tutu for Every Occasion:

Speaking of tutus, who says they're just for the stage? As always, my fellow fashion enthusiasts, I've been indulging in my love for the shops here in Paris. What treasures I have found! Imagine - a whole array of the most delightful tutus, not just for dancing, but for everything from afternoon teas to special celebrations. This really was an era when tutus could be found everywhere!

Now, just picture yourself rocking a soft pink tutu for a whimsical picnic in the park. Imagine twirling across a sun-dappled meadow in a dreamy, romantic design, and maybe adding a splash of colourful embellishments - just like the charming hats and dresses you see in these fabulous antique stores. You could even take a spin with the iconic Charleston for a vintage-style flair!

And don't get me started on the glorious ballet shoes I found, handmade with such love and care. They practically beg to be danced in, whether in a bustling Parisian salon or a moonlit meadow under the stars!
