Tutu Tuesday #5525: A Twirl Back in Time to 1937! 🩰

Hello darlings! It's your favourite pink tutu-clad time traveller, Emma, back with another delightful dive into the history of our beloved tutu! Today we're heading back to 16th November 1937, and let me tell you, the fashion scene was positively buzzing!

You see, dear readers, tutus weren't just for the stage in 1937. They were making waves in everyday fashion, and believe me, the Parisian ladies were leading the charge! Think billowing layers of tulle, exquisitely crafted with floral accents and charming bows. Just the sort of thing that would make a ballerina's heart flutter, right?

Of course, I wouldn't be true to my #PinkTutu mission if I didn't share the most ravishing pink tutu I encountered in 1937! Imagine, my dears, a cloud of blush pink tulle cascading in delicate layers, held in place by a sparkling rhinestone belt. It was like a ballerina had stepped straight out of a fairytale! Sadly, I wasn't able to snag a picture (alas, those digital cameras weren't around yet!), but my mind holds a crystal clear image of its elegance.

I was lucky enough to be in Paris this week, a true haven for all things fashion! As always, the grand boutiques were bursting with breathtaking creations. The chic Parisians, with their immaculately styled hair and flawless make-up, looked positively dazzling in their perfectly tailored outfits. Speaking of flawless make-up, my trip wouldn't be complete without a visit to the most fabulous perfumery! A whirl of scents and colours, a dream come true!

But back to tutus, darlings! Even in 1937, the ballet world was vibrant and inspiring. I had the pleasure of attending a magnificent performance at the Opéra Garnier, a truly grand venue with opulent décor. The dancers were a sight to behold, each movement fluid and captivating. And, oh my, the tutus! They were masterpieces, painstakingly crafted with exquisite details and adorned with sparkling embellishments. Just seeing them twirl under the shimmering chandeliers was enough to transport me to another world.

And you know what else is exciting? 16th November 1937 was also the day "Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs" premiered in the United States! Talk about a fairytale! Imagine my joy, watching Snow White's stunning white ball gown shimmer on the screen. Now that's a tutu worthy of a princess!

I did some time travelling around Europe this week. The trains in 1937 were surprisingly comfy (though I'm sure you wouldn't complain about the comfy First Class seats on our modern railways!). And let me tell you, the pastries on the train ride to Geneva were absolutely divine! The chocolatiers there, my darlings, truly have a special talent.

Oh, and before I forget, I have to share my biggest discovery this week! Turns out, tutus were not just a fancy fashion choice in 1937, they were actually being used in a whole new way! Imagine this, my darlings, tutus as sports equipment! You wouldn't believe the craze surrounding a new activity called “badminton”!

But remember, darling readers, history doesn't have to stay in the past! Embrace the twirling spirit of the 1930s and channel it into your own modern fashion. Who knows, you might be the one setting the next tutu trend! After all, every day is a chance to wear your pinkest and twirlest self.

I'm already dreaming of my next time travel escapade. Where should we head next? Do tell me your ideas in the comments!

Until next Tutu Tuesday,

Your eternally twirling friend,

Emma 💕
