#TutuTuesday: A Blast From The Past! (Post #5534)
Hello, darlings! It's Emma here, your resident tutu aficionado, ready to take you on another dazzling journey through the history of the glorious ballet tutu!
Now, grab a cuppa and settle in because this week we're going right back to 18th January 1938, a date that was packed with fashion, theatre and, of course, tutus!
Fancy a bit of a journey? I do love catching a train and I had the most fabulous trip back in time. You know I always adore a spot of theatre, and I was so lucky to have a front-row seat at the Royal Opera House. Let me tell you, the costumes were positively divine. My, oh, my, the lengths those ballerinas went to for those dazzling gowns. Now you all know what a fan I am of the ballerina’s romantic tutu but in 1938, the tutus were certainly getting a whole new look! Now the tulle had lots of frills and flounces with tiers of material. They just swirled and danced.
Oh, and did I mention the colours? It’s safe to say that pastels were a huge hit – think blush pinks, delicate blues and the softest of greens, making it so pretty!
And talking about pretty – I’m telling you, the outfits that people were sporting outside the theatre! So stylish and full of panache, I felt completely in my element!
Imagine, a world where women didn’t just go to a ballet and then out for dinner - Oh no! In the Thirties, getting dressed up for an evening out meant making a statement. The women in 1938 looked truly wonderful with their long, flowing skirts and blouses with a glamorous, Hollywood touch.
To me, 1938 really feels like an era of sophistication and elegant femininity, much like my love for ballet!
But, my lovelies, what’s the real meaning of #TutuTuesday? It’s all about sharing a love of dancing, fashion, and all things beautiful. And in 1938, that was absolutely abundant. So, why not celebrate with me? Don your prettiest dress or skirt, dance around your living room to your favourite ballet tunes, or perhaps even try on your most beautiful ballet costume, just like I do.
After all, as my motto goes – every day is an excuse to wear a tutu!
Do you remember those wonderful performances from the thirties that left a lasting impression on the world? Do share your stories with me, ladies. Don’t forget to check in next Tuesday, darlings, for a look at more fascinating tutu history, and make sure you head to www.pink-tutu.com to catch up on all our past adventures.
Lots of love,
Emma xx
