#TutuTuesday: A Pink Whirl Through Time!

Bonjour, darling dancers! Emma here, back with another fabulous trip through #TutuTuesday, this week whisking us to the enchanting era of 1938, the year where fashion, ballet, and grace all converged in a symphony of silk and satin. Buckle your ballet shoes and hold onto your tutus, ladies - we're about to take a waltz back in time!

(And yes, you've guessed it - my dearest pink tutu has been packed for the occasion, the frills perfectly coordinating with my vintage train ticket, a reminder of the grand era of rail travel. Who needs jetlag when you can soak up the charm of a first-class carriage and imagine yourself in a charming costume drama?)

A Century of Change - The 1930s:

You know me, a lover of all things ballet, so imagine my delight to step back into a decade that witnessed the evolution of Russian ballet! It was a glorious period, with Leonid Massine, a legend of the dance, leading the way at The Ballets Russes, creating ballets that transported the world to magical realms of dreams. And let's not forget the mesmerising work of Sergei Diaghilev, a visionary whose artistic direction changed the world of ballet forever.

Speaking of revolutionary style, 1938 was a year of significant changes for the fashion world too! Gone were the excessively feminine and restrictive styles of the 1920s. We entered an age of sophistication and chic where the female silhouette was more defined. Imagine me, darling, draped in a bold printed dress, a whisper of the new look, with a belt accentuating my figure. Now, wouldn’t that look spectacular with a fabulous pink tutu? A bold clash of colour, perhaps? The imagination runs wild, doesn't it?

## A Dance on the Danube

Where could a ballet enthusiast go in 1938? Why, Vienna, Austria, of course! Today, April 19th, the real Emma, the one living in the year 2023, would be eagerly attending a ballet show at the Vienna State Opera. It's a grand tradition since 1869! The Vienna Opera Ballet has held audiences spellbound for over a century. So, I, the pink tutu-clad Emma, must be there too, savoring the performance and soaking in the grandeur of this timeless setting. (Think sparkling chandeliers, elaborate costumes, and a thrilling ballet that sweeps you off your feet - my kind of day!).

A Little Fashion Tip for Today: Don’t you just adore those iconic 1930s hats? Feathers, a dash of sequins, and a slight tilt for a touch of mystery - perfection! These hats add such drama to even the most basic outfit. So next time you're looking for a stylish statement, look for a vintage-inspired hat and embrace the glamour of the 1930s.

A Whirlwind Journey

As you can imagine, darling, my journey through time was simply extraordinary! From Vienna’s grandeur to a stop at a London tailor, admiring those stylish, silk, 1930s dresses – there are so many tales to share from my time travelling escapade. But alas, time travel comes with a catch: my journey back to Derbyshire is already calling. But do pop over to www.pink-tutu.com every Tuesday for another thrilling peek into #TutuTuesday! I'll have you swirling with style and swirling through the ages. Until next time, lovelies, stay fabulous and don’t forget your pink tutus!

A quick P.S.

Today is the birthday of the amazing dancer and choreographer Dame Ninette de Valois (born in 1898). This British icon led the ballet world to its feet. Without her, the ballet landscape would be vastly different. Let's give her a standing ovation, dancers!

With a twirl and a sprinkle of pixie dust, Emma
