#TutuTuesday Ballet Tutu History: December 20th, 1938 - Post #5582 🩰💖
Hello my darling darlings! It's Emma here, back from another fabulous time-hopping adventure! And guess what? Today, I'm heading back to 1938 - the golden age of the tutu! Think swirling skirts, delicate tulle, and all the glamour of a bygone era!
Today’s tutu adventures are set in a beautiful, historical theatre, and oh my, you wouldn’t believe the wonderful ballet performance I witnessed - the entire production felt like a shimmering, glittering dream!
But before we delve into the magic of this historical performance, I do have to share the exciting news about my latest tutu-tastic shopping trip in the enchanting Parisian shops! Now, let’s be honest, tutus never really go out of style, do they? But, you’ll be so chuffed to know that this time around, the fashion houses were all about dreamy fabrics and the most exquisite, flowing designs. And I, of course, indulged in the most wonderful shades of pink! Imagine a blush of sunrise, the petals of a ballerina rose, and a sweet, sugary confection of a tutu - I purchased every shade imaginable. If I haven’t convinced you to rock a pink tutu yet, well, frankly darling, you’re simply missing out on a whole lot of fun!
The Tutu of the 1930sRight, let's dive into the heart of my time-travelling tale. 1938 was a glorious year for the world of ballet. You wouldn’t believe the graceful twirls and leaps I witnessed today – simply mesmerising! The tutu back then, while retaining its airy, graceful nature, had a more structured design than the tutus of earlier periods. The use of lighter tulle added an incredible sense of movement, making the dancers seem to float across the stage.
Imagine layers of fine, gossamer fabric, carefully stitched to create the iconic bell shape. It was a celebration of ethereal beauty. Even more stunning? Many of the ballerinas adorned their tutus with glittering beads and sparkling sequins – pure, breathtaking glamour! This, my dear darlings, is where the fashion element really shined! A hint of romanticism woven with sheer sophistication.
# Tutu Tuesday Tip! Don’t think for a moment that a 1930s inspired tutu is solely for the ballet stage! Add a chic touch to your own style with a simple tutu overlay skirt. Think evening gowns with a tulle overlay – stunning! It’s a sure way to bring a whimsical touch of ballerina charm into your own life. You can find amazing vintage tutus in online marketplaces – look for the labels and designers from the 1930s and get your own glimpse into history.
Time Traveling On the Rails! You’re probably wondering how I got to the heart of Paris to get a glimpse into ballet’s fabulous history. The answer, my dears, is by train! I simply adore the romantic air of traveling by train, especially with a little tutu action. And let me tell you, there’s no better way to experience the French countryside than through the windows of a sleek, vintage train!
As I boarded my vintage carriage and settled down to read a book on ballet history, I was surrounded by passengers with a charming sense of old-world charm. Every carriage felt like a stage for a little performance of my own!
Let's just say, my time-hopping has been especially rewarding, thanks to the magic of trains and their romantic connection to my beloved ballet! I even started a ballet-themed tea party in my first class compartment!
A Glimpse of 1938: More Than Just TutusOf course, it’s not just ballet and tutus that draw me to the past. Every period of time offers a new, fascinating look into history. The year 1938 in France was a time of change, with a wave of excitement for innovation, while the threat of a looming war was never far away. I must admit that the news I read in the newspaper about this unfolding situation was disheartening, as the tension in Paris felt quite palpable, though the spirit of ballet continued to shine through it all.
And it was such a fascinating glimpse into the fashion trends of the time. The era was awash with flowing skirts, delicate silks, and luxurious fabrics – it simply exuded elegance! Paris was truly the fashion capital of the world and people’s style mirrored the vibrant spirit of the arts – and of course, tutus! It truly was the perfect backdrop to a ballet show!
And finally, my darlings…Tonight, I will be hosting a little party in my suite with a selection of vintage outfits and an impromptu performance for a lucky few. There’s just something so wonderful about embracing the elegance and artistry of a bygone era and using fashion and dance to add some glamour to my life, don’t you think?
Until next week, darlings!
Keep those twirling pink tutus spinning and remember, there’s always time for a little ballet in your life.
Love, Emma 💕🩰
