#TutuTuesday Ballet Tutu History - Post #5589! 🩰💖

Hello my darling dears! Welcome back to another wonderful #TutuTuesday post on www.pink-tutu.com! I’m your favourite pink-clad time travelling ballerina blogger, Emma, and today we’re taking a little trip back in time to the oh-so-glamorous 7th of February 1939.

I’ve just hopped off the Orient Express - I adore those grand old trains - and arrived in Paris, the very heart of fashion and, of course, ballet! It's been an absolute whirlwind! From my window seat on the train, I spotted the Eiffel Tower peeking out from behind the rooftops and it was just breathtaking.

The air here is practically buzzing with energy! Fashionistas are flitting around with their heads held high, and I could practically smell the Chanel No.5 and the fresh scent of blooming roses that fills the boulevards. It’s like stepping into a Parisian fashion magazine, and trust me, I’m absolutely loving it!

A Tutu for Every Occasion

Now, what was life like in the ballet world in 1939 you ask? Well, tutus were definitely still having a moment. Think flowing, voluminous tulle skirts, reaching right to the floor, the kind that makes you dream of twirling under the glittering chandeliers of the Opéra Garnier! They were everything for the ladies!

A touch of drama on the stage certainly called for an elaborate tutu! If the ladies weren't donning these beautiful, dramatic tutus then you’d probably see them sporting more tailored styles, a little shorter but just as captivating - think tutus for the times! It was all about achieving a beautifully graceful, but still powerful look that demanded your attention.

Let’s Talk Fashion

In 1939, the fashions were a glorious mix of romance, glamour, and elegance, perfectly mirroring the artistry of the ballet world. Just as our darling ballerinas embraced the grace and flow of their tutus, so too did the ladies of fashion. Flowing gowns with beautifully fitted bodices were all the rage, often embellished with delicate lace, beads, or shimmering sequins. We're talking seriously stunning looks, folks!

But remember, even on days when we weren’t dancing under the spotlight, we needed something that would perfectly compliment the beautiful movement of our legs and the graceful lines of our bodies - think full skirts and soft materials to ensure that every movement flowed flawlessly. Think pencil skirts, a little peplum to add a little flair - all made from lovely, luxurious fabrics, with the colour pink of course always stealing the show!

February the 7th, 1939 - A Little Dive into History

So, on this very day in history, we were treated to an amazing performance by none other than the legendary Diaghilev Ballet! It’s no surprise the Ballet was performing at this time - they have a long history with France, having brought Russian ballet to Parisian audiences right back in 1909. This ballet company really helped make ballet mainstream, paving the way for generations of future ballerinas to come. Imagine all the excitement and anticipation of the audience!

They would have been dressed in their most fabulous attire, from stunning floor-length evening gowns to stylish two-piece ensembles that highlighted their most fabulous features. It was all about grace, femininity, and glamour. What a time to be alive, don't you think?

Living Your Tutu Dreams

The spirit of 1939 ballet lives on, in our hearts and on stages across the world! So, remember to embrace your own love for the dance! Let your tutu carry you to wonderful new heights, inspiring you to explore new creative expressions.

Today’s inspiration is a call to unleash your inner ballerina. Remember those graceful, flowy tutus that danced so beautifully on the stage in 1939. And as always my darling dears - embrace the magic of your own pink tutu. I love seeing them on all of you!

Don't forget to follow me on Instagram for some gorgeous pictures of this little trip - I've already snapped some photos in the shops with a fascinating, long white tulle tutu that I absolutely HAD to try on! Keep an eye out on www.pink-tutu.com for an exclusive blog post later in the week detailing all my gorgeous fashion finds.

Until next week my lovelies, happy twirling!
