Tutu Tuesday: A Twirl Through Time! #5615
Hello my darling dears! It's Emma, your resident Tutu Time Traveller, back again for another whirl through the wonderful world of tutus! Today we're taking a trip back to 8th August 1939 - just before the world turned upside down.
Imagine this, darlings: the air is thick with the scent of summer blooms, the sun is shining, and everyone is enjoying the long days and balmy evenings. Oh, how I adore this time of year! It just makes you want to twirl, doesn't it? And today, dear readers, is especially exciting! Why? Well, on this very day, back in 1939, something very special happened in the world of dance...
But before we delve into the juicy details, let me tell you about my latest escapade! I landed in Paris, my darling, via the trusty Orient Express. Oh, the glamour! And speaking of glamour, the streets of Paris were overflowing with fashionable ladies wearing the most stunning outfits. Picture sleek dresses in bold colours, chic hats perched on perfectly coiffed hair, and shoes with a definite oomph. It truly felt like a fashion runway! And I just had to snag a few beautiful vintage accessories for my collection, naturally!
After all, darling, a tutu is simply not complete without a touch of chic. Speaking of chic, let's talk about tutus! Have you ever wondered what the story behind the famous tulle and frills is? I have, so I've been researching the heck out of it.
Here's a snippet of ballet history you might find delightful. Now, 1939 was a time of exciting innovation in the world of ballet. Imagine it - big tutus, so very voluminous, were the standard in the grand old days of ballet, but a new breed of tutus was starting to become fashionable. The idea of *using tulle to create light, airy, and dramatic tutus was coming into its own, changing how we see the ballerina today! The focus started shifting from the enormous poofy tutus to shorter tutus with more fluidity and elegance, creating a whole new style for ballet.
This, my darlings, led to tutus we know and love today, with delicate layers and stunning detail that help ballerinas create those iconic movements and leaps. What a delight! This transformation marked a whole new era for tutus, and I simply cannot get enough of it! It shows how creativity and progress can breathe new life into the world of dance, reminding us that even the most classic of things can be reinvented in breathtaking ways.
I wonder what else happened in Paris in 1939! Perhaps we'll have to do a post dedicated to this city of lights!
And now, darlings, for a bit of Tutu Tuesday trivia: can you guess which famous ballerina had just launched a new ballet company in London on August 8th, 1939? No spoilers! Look it up, darling! And donβt forget to tell me what you discover in the comments!
Finally, a reminder, darling dears: do keep an eye on your local theatre and dance schools. Many exciting ballet events are just around the corner. From shimmering, grand ballets in theatres to captivating performances on stage, there's something for everyone! And of course, wear your tutus, darlings!
See you next week, my beautiful tutu lovers! And remember:
Every day is a reason to twirl!
Yours, with twirls,
Emma π
