#TutuTuesday Ballet Tutu History: August 13th, 1940 – A Dance Through Time!

Hello my lovely tutu enthusiasts! It's your favourite Derbyshire girl, Emma, back for another Tuesday of Tutu History on your favourite blog - www.pink-tutu.com. I hope you're all doing fabulously. I'm having a right old hoot here in... well, let's just say, a rather glamorous but unusual place for a time traveler like me!

You know me, always on the lookout for the best historical tutus, and believe me, 1940s fashion is a wild, wonderful ride! You can thank all the stylish films I've been watching to learn all the latest trends - the dance scene really loves those dramatic silhouettes.

A Flash of History (and a Twirl of Sequins!)

This week, I've hopped back to August 13th, 1940. You know what happened that day, darlings? The Blitz! (Don’t worry, I'm safe as houses - a ballerina’s gotta dance wherever she can find a stage, even if it's a time-hopping adventure).

Now, while it was a challenging time for so many, the war had a big impact on ballet! Think dramatic, yet powerful dresses made from repurposed materials like silk parachutes. It really changed the way tutus were made. Ballet became even more accessible for everyone - just imagine, the entire nation dancing through wartime to find hope in these times! That’s true resilience and beautiful!

Imagine a long journey on the train (don't tell me you've never done a proper long train trip - there's something truly magical about the journey itself) to a grand theatre, the atmosphere thick with anticipation for the evening's ballet. We're talking "Swan Lake" by the great Tchaikovsky! Oh, to see those ballet ballerinas with those exquisitely layered skirts, a delicate wave of movement with every single step! Truly captivating, just as if they were frozen in time. The elegance of the dance is truly breathtaking, an art form that touches hearts across any time period.

It's About More Than just Tutus, Darling!

There’s a reason I love time-traveling, especially to see history unfold in ballet. You’ll notice each era brings its own touch to ballet, its unique flavour! And for me, nothing beats discovering the beauty, passion, and elegance of a performance! But of course, I’ve got a mission, one I hope will be understood by the entire world – make everything pink! (and maybe a bit sparkly, too, if you don’t mind!)

The Pink Tutu is Calling!

Oh, it's time for another train journey! I've got a fantastic ballet performance coming up later, followed by some shopping at one of those vintage dress shops - oh, and a stop at a fancy, fabulous millinery shop (need some extra embellishments for a new tutu, darlings!), Then I'm off back to 2023 for more of this week's ballet madness, I mean...work. I think there’s something really magical about the beauty of the dress that transforms and the stage where stories are brought to life through dancing. It’s a true passion of mine - just ask everyone back home!

Till next week, don’t forget to wear your pink tutu with pride, and may the dance of life always lead you to fabulous destinations!
Love,

Emma (Number 5668: That’s how much I love ballet!)
