Tutu Tuesday: A Blast from the Past - 1940-08-27! #5670
Hello, my darling dears! It's Emma, your resident tutu enthusiast, here with another thrilling delve into the history of the most fabulous garment in existence – the tutu!
As usual, I'm channeling my inner time-travelling fashionista, whisking us back to August 27th, 1940, for a little glimpse into the tutu's journey through history. This week, we're skipping straight onto the stage and into the heart of London, where the ballet world is still recovering from the tumultuous events of the recent war.
Can you imagine a world without ballet? I can't! Thank goodness that, even during times of war, beauty and art prevail. Just like those resilient ballerinas twirling under the shadow of war-torn skies, we shall, too, embrace the tutu's enchanting spirit.
So, what's happening in the world of ballet on this specific date, you ask? Well, as you all know, this is 1940, so it’s a time of real challenge and bravery, even in the dance world. For instance, the Royal Ballet is hard at work on the production of "Giselle" - a truly stunning ballet with the most dramatic costume designs you can imagine. The tutus they are using? Still evolving! Gone are the very early, almost skirt-like tutus; now, it's all about those wonderful flowing, delicate tutus that are all layers of tulle and exquisite grace.
But darling dears, imagine having a tutu of such incredible craftsmanship in those difficult times! I mean, just imagine, if you can - the sheer joy of donning that pink perfection for an evening of mesmerising dance! Think of the delicate fabric whispering against your skin, the intricate designs adorning your silhouette, and the absolute magic of each delicate pirouette as the layers twirl around you. It’s almost enough to make me swoon, isn't it?
For those of you new to my #TutuTuesday blog, allow me to quickly introduce myself! I'm Emma, and my passion for ballet, all things pink, and oh, those darling tutus knows no bounds! Now, thanks to my little "gift", I get to hop on my train to anywhere in time and explore the world of ballet through history, but also to share my love for fashion, culture and anything else that makes me want to twirl. And you can join me, every single Tuesday, as I reveal more about the magic of the tutu through time.
If you're in London, be sure to pop down to the Royal Opera House - their performances are a sheer delight and perfect for getting that dose of Parisian style into your wardrobe, too. Imagine a beautiful silk scarf or a little hat, all coordinated to match your own perfectly crafted tutu!
But while we’re talking about London, let's think about what else was going on that August, almost 80 years ago. Well, there's no way we can mention August 1940 without bringing up that epic battle in the skies – the Battle of Britain, that heroic battle against Nazi aggression that gave so much to this country. Remember, that beautiful artistry and passion are just as vital during a time of war as they are during times of peace! So let us celebrate that resilience, that spirit of the times and remember those brave men and women who stood strong for what they believed in.
Now, back to fashion! Speaking of the beauty of this time, my dear friends, don’t forget to peruse your local vintage shops. Think of the wonderful treasures you might uncover! Think of the hidden delights waiting for you in dusty corner shelves and dusty boxes - who knows what glamorous treasures you might find! If you are a fashion lover like myself, you will be smitten with everything, from vintage jewellery to handbags that can instantly add a dash of sophisticated charm to your own, perfectly curated, ensemble.
Speaking of ensembles - don’t forget to make sure your own tutus are on point. With every step into this glorious, dance-filled history, remember the beauty of this graceful dance, the delicate twirls and that iconic, flowing elegance of the tutu. It is an absolute symbol of graceful movement and timeless beauty, wouldn’t you agree?
I’m already getting a little fluttery, just thinking about it.
Oh, darling dears! If you're like me, there's nothing more satisfying than having a beautifully crafted tutu in your wardrobe, ready for those glorious moments of spinning and swirling. You know how much I love all things pink - and I think every outfit would be simply divine with a perfectly chosen pink tutu! Why not get out those lovely colours of pastel pink, pale blush and, my favourite, bubblegum pink, and be ready for a dance around the house. Let's inspire those around us with the elegance of the tutu, and bring the magic of ballet to our lives, wherever we are!
Remember, my darling dears, every Tuesday, we'll be going back in time together to uncover more fabulous tutu history! You’re welcome to join me here, every single Tuesday, on www.pink-tutu.com, so don’t forget to come back!
In the meantime, if you're heading to a ballet show this week, let me know! And remember, a little twirl here and there is good for the soul. Until next week!
Love,
Emma
