#TutuTuesday: Ballet Tutu History โ 1941.12.02 โ Post #5736! ๐ฉฐ๐
Hello darlings! Emma here, your favourite pink-tutu-clad time-travelling ballerina, back for another #TutuTuesday delve into the delightful world of ballet history! Itโs always so exciting to hop through the decades and see how our beloved tutu has evolved โ itโs like a fascinating fashion story unfolding before my eyes! Today, my little ballerinas, weโre heading to December 2nd, 1941, a day forever etched in the hearts and minds of the ballet world, especially here in the United Kingdom. Why, you ask? Because this was the day that The Sleeping Beauty debuted in its original version at the Royal Opera House! ๐
Oh my! How much glamour and magic! Imagine a dazzling setting, costumes that whispered of bygone days, and the magic of a story so captivating, it transports you straight to a magical, fairytale land!
But hold on a minuteโฆ 1941โฆ Isnโt that, well, a tad tricky for the world of dance? Of course, the world was locked in a global conflict, and while it's a challenging time, we see the true strength and resilience of the human spirit. You see, darlings, the power of ballet isnโt just in the breathtaking choreography or the delicate tutus โ it's in its ability to lift us up, to transport us, to offer hope and beauty, even in the face of hardship. Just imagine stepping out into the chill December air after such a magical performance โ it must have been like escaping into a realm of pure joy and wonder!
Now, you might be thinking โ what kind of tutus were our favourite ballerinas twirling around in back then? Oh, my lovelies, itโs truly fascinating to see how the tutus of this era contrasted with what we know today. In 1941, the ballerina's silhouette was much fuller, with skirts made of multiple layers of stiff tulle, almost like an elegant, swirling cloud! Those layered tutus were definitely not for prancing around on pointe all night - they were a triumph of elegance and grace!
Now, for our historical tidbit of the day! Did you know that The Sleeping Beauty was so loved by audiences, that it quickly became a must-see event? So much so, that a beautiful 25th anniversary performance took place right here in Covent Garden back in 1966. The London newspapers reported it as โa triumphant re-stagingโ โ and how right they were! โจ
My little angels, the enduring beauty of The Sleeping Beauty continues to captivate and enchant audiences even today. This year, I caught a wonderful rendition at the Bolshoi, a truly spectacular spectacle. There is something about a timeless ballet like The Sleeping Beauty โ it allows us to step away from the cares of the world, into a world of beauty and enchantment, don't you think?
But enough of history for now โ back to our pink tutu journey! Speaking of tutus, darlings, I just came across the most divine online boutique called "The Ballerina's Boutique"! Imagine this - a sea of pink tulle, adorable, sparkling tutus in every shape and size. Of course, I simply had to get myself a few - just because! ๐๏ธ ๐
You see, it's not just about wearing a tutu, it's about feeling the joy and magic it brings to life! I am, after all, on a mission to spread the pink-tutu-love around the world โ one ballerina at a time!
Until next Tuesday, darlings, donโt forget to wear your brightest smiles and perhaps even a little pink tutu. Stay stylish and keep twirling! ๐โจ
