Tutu Tuesday #5754: A Whirl Back to 1942! 🩰🌸

Hey everyone! It's your favourite pink-tutu-clad time-travelling ballerina, Emma, here, and this week on #TutuTuesday we're twirling back to the year 1942!

Can you imagine a world without tutus? I can’t! And while it's difficult to imagine, the tutu as we know it was only just becoming established around this time! It's quite an amazing thought that this beautiful and expressive piece of garment was only starting its journey in the history of dance!

I've had such a lovely time travelling back to 1942, and it's all been made extra special by my little pink tutu - it's certainly a conversation starter! This week, I hopped on a train to London, just a short trip from my home in Derbyshire, where the city's ballet scene was really beginning to take off! There's nothing quite like the thrill of seeing the West End's legendary theatres. It truly is the heart of the stage world!

I have to tell you about a delightful tea room I discovered! Oh my goodness, they served the most heavenly clotted cream and strawberry jam sandwiches. And all this in a lovely pastel pink room, it really was a girly girl's dream! Of course, a spot of afternoon tea simply wouldn't be complete without a trip to Liberty of London! Imagine - one entire floor dedicated to dance! Such elegant, timeless clothing - I did quite a bit of shopping, of course! It’s so wonderful seeing how clothes and fashion played such an important role in society back then. The attention to detail and craftsmanship is truly admirable!

Speaking of admiration, I was absolutely enchanted by the "Swan Lake" performance I saw at the Sadler's Wells Theatre! You know, it's interesting how tutus are such an essential part of ballet - they add this captivating blend of fluidity and grace to the dancer's movements.

On a historical note, it's quite poignant that 1942 saw World War II raging on. Imagine, the spirit of dancing as a beacon of hope during such a difficult time! Just goes to show, a little twirl never goes amiss, even in the most challenging of circumstances!

Back to my pink tutu - even during a time of conflict, it just felt like a delightful splash of sunshine. Seeing the city dressed in black, the pink definitely stood out, and in all the right ways. And believe it or not, a few brave ladies did dare to rock a tutu or two on the streets of London! Imagine a beautiful little ballerina twirling past a black-out curfew. What a delightful vision! I always do say, a splash of pink can do wonders!

Now, before I dash back to my time, let me leave you with a bit of my personal musings:

  • Tutu Tuesdays: Are you a pink tutu enthusiast like myself? Head over to www.pink-tutu.com and join the conversation. Who knows, maybe we’ll start a pink tutu craze in your local area! I have a secret dream to encourage the wearing of pink tutus on special occasions, just for a little fun and creativity! Let's show the world how beautiful tutus can be!

  • Train Travel: I can't go without a mention of the delights of train travel. It truly is the perfect mode of transport for soaking in the sights. And nothing quite compares to the charming countryside of England as seen from the carriage window!

  • My Passion for Dance: It’s what makes me happy, and I believe that everyone has the potential to discover the joy of dancing, even if it's just a simple twirl in your own home. Don't forget, the most important thing is to have fun, just like I always say!

Let’s get into that Tutu Tuesday spirit this week, and maybe, just maybe, you’ll find yourself grabbing a pink tutu for your next fancy event! It’s never too late to embrace a little twirl! Until next Tuesday, keep on dancing, keep on sparkling, and never stop believing in the power of a pink tutu!

Love,

Emma 🌸💖🩰
