#TutuTuesday: Ballet Tutu History - 1942-06-16 🩰💖
Hello darlings!
It’s me, your favourite pink tutu-clad time-travelling fashionista, Emma, back with another fabulously frilly edition of #TutuTuesday: Ballet Tutu History. We’re whizzing back to the 1940s today, and it's a fabulous time to be exploring fashion history!
As always, I'm off on another whirlwind adventure in the name of ballet and the most darling tutus. This week, we're landing in none other than the vibrant city of New York! They've just opened a brand new ballet school, the School of American Ballet. This fabulous establishment has all the newest innovations and is already a big name in ballet. Can you believe the sheer amount of talent flowing from this incredible place? It's so inspiring to be here, soaking in all the beautiful balletic energy!
Let’s step back to 1942!
New York is absolutely abuzz. Everyone is dressed up to the nines, all sleek, sophisticated lines, just like the tutus they're wearing at the ballet. Think of the most exquisite silhouettes – think 1940s-inspired A-line dresses with nipped waists, cinched in with cinched sashes, beautiful full skirts, and oh-so-flattering fitted jackets, all finished with the quintessential 1940s accessory: a chic hat. They really know how to make an entrance, these fabulous ladies!
Speaking of making an entrance… Have you seen the tutus worn in New York this year? They’re positively breathtaking! Picture this: the most stunning, sheer fabrics like chiffon and silk, swirling and swirling in the most captivating patterns. The lengths? Absolutely exquisite! Short, long, it’s all about what works for each ballerina. And don’t get me started on the colours! Think shades of the sweetest pale pinks, light blues, delicate yellows, with maybe a sprinkle of red for those dancers with a bolder sense of style.
It’s simply a ballet wonderland, and as always, the tutus are taking centre stage! The attention to detail on these creations is incredible - exquisite embroidery, lace trims, and delicate beading create the most stunning and timeless looks. I just know this year's ballet season is going to be one for the books!
Tutu Time Travel Trivia:
And since I'm a firm believer in sharing knowledge (and pink!), let's delve into a bit of trivia! In this time period, tutus aren't just for dancers. Yes, ladies, that's right! These incredible tutus are so utterly enchanting that even the trendsetters have hopped onto the tutu bandwagon! Now I just need to work my magic to get these fashionistas sporting pink! 😜
But how do I make sure my journey across the decades is a glamorous one?
Easy peasy, darling! My ballet performances are the key. When I need a bit of extra coin to travel back in time, I head to a stage near you and wow the audience with a few of my best pirouettes. It's so much fun to perform! I get to be the queen of the stage, and the tutus help me transport myself into another era… because honestly, you never really stop time travelling in a tutu, do you? 💖
Stay tuned next Tuesday for another amazing instalment of #TutuTuesday. You'll be getting the lowdown on what else happened on this incredible date in 1942… I’m pretty sure I'll be wearing pink again. 😉 What else could a fashionista ask for?
Don’t forget to share your tutu adventures with me! I love seeing you all decked out in the fluffiest, pinkest, most fabulous tutus imaginable.
Until then,
XOXO Emma! 💖
