#TutuTuesday Ballet Tutu History: A 1943 Journey Through Time! 🩰✨
Hello my lovely tutu-loving darlings! It's your favourite pink-tutu-clad time traveller, Emma, back with another #TutuTuesday Ballet Tutu History post! This week, I'm taking us on a trip back in time to the 27th of July 1943. Hold onto your tutus, girls, it's gonna be a whirlwind!
The war's still on, but the world of dance, even amidst the troubles, keeps turning. Today, we find ourselves in the very heart of tutu history – the magnificent city of Paris. Can you imagine? It's still a city shrouded in shadows, but in the elegant Parisian theaters, a glimmer of joy shines through in the form of ballet.
I hopped off the train at Gare du Nord in the morning sunshine – how divine, a day just like today! As I made my way to the elegant Theatre des Champs-Elysees, the air was alive with a sense of hopeful expectancy. Can you imagine, walking those cobblestones in my hot pink tutu, head held high, making my own joyful statement in the midst of uncertainty?
It seems, dear readers, that the 27th of July, 1943, saw the Bolshoi Ballet give a performance of "Giselle". The Bolshoi, performing in Paris, imagine! There's nothing quite like ballet to stir the soul and lift spirits. It doesn't matter if you're watching in wartime or sunshine, the emotions flow, the story unfolds.
This evening in Paris, 1943, would have been a truly unforgettable experience. The legendary ballerina Galina Ulanova would be gracing the stage as Giselle. I simply had to see it! Even though I wasn’t actually there. You know me, always living vicariously through the magic of history.
This post reminded me to do a little shopping, you know me! Now, you might think, "Emma, Paris 1943, war going on, you sure there was a decent selection?" Well, let's just say a lovely Parisian couturier named Coco was having some very good ideas around the same time! Can't beat those elegant French designs, wouldn't you say? I was lucky enough to pick up a simply darling, pastel pink, silk dress to commemorate my journey – what do you think? Maybe I'll wear it in a future post!
This #TutuTuesday was quite an inspiring trip, wouldn’t you say? Paris, 1943, even amidst wartime troubles, the spirit of ballet, of grace, of joy, persisted. Remember, darling tutus, even when the world feels dark, keep your head held high and embrace the elegance of life, one graceful step at a time.
