#TutuTuesday: Ballet Tutu History - August 17th, 1943 ๐Ÿฉฐ

Hello my darling Tutu lovers! ๐Ÿ’–

It's me, your favourite pink-tutu-clad time traveller, Emma, and welcome to post number 5825 of my #TutuTuesday series on the illustrious history of ballet tutus! Today, we're jetting back to 17th August 1943, and let me tell you, darling, the world of fashion, especially in the realm of tutus, was positively buzzing with excitement!

Now, this particular date falls smack bang in the middle of the Second World War. It was a tough time for everyone, but even amidst the hardships, the allure of ballet and the beautiful artistry of tutus held a special place in people's hearts. And just like today, with a touch of lipstick, a dash of glamour, and a swish of a silky tutu, you could leave the worries of the day behind.

A peek into 1943's tutu world:

Just imagine, darling, if you were to step back in time, you would find a world brimming with traditional tutus, but with a little bit of wartime ingenuity thrown in.

The classical tutu: This iconic garment was a timeless symbol of elegance and grace. Think layers of soft tulle, meticulously crafted and fitted to the body. While practicality was at the forefront, with war-time fabric rationing, these classic tutus were a celebration of artistry and a way to keep ballet alive, even in the darkest of times.

Wartime innovations: Now, for a little fun fact! You wouldn't believe the ingenuity that emerged in these years. Designers found ways to make beautiful tutus using recycled materials, scraps of fabric, and even paper! Can you imagine? It was a truly remarkable testament to human resilience and the sheer power of creativity.

Where to spot tutus:

On the 17th August 1943, you'd find beautiful performances by world-renowned ballet companies such as the Royal Ballet at Covent Garden, the Sadler's Wells Ballet (which has become Birmingham Royal Ballet), and the Paris Opera Ballet. Their stunning performances kept the spirit of ballet alive, despite the challenging times. Of course, one couldn't forget the wonderful ballet schools dotted across the world! All dedicated to instilling the love and passion for dance, especially in these challenging years.

Back to present day... A little bit of vintage inspiration:

Now, let's bring it back to the present! As you know, I'm utterly in love with anything vintage! The creativity, ingenuity and ingenuity of past fashionistas truly inspires me!

Why not try crafting your own unique tutu using recycled materials, like old fabric scraps, or even crafting a statement tutu out of paper? Don't forget to tag me in your #TutuTuesday creations! I love seeing your amazing designs.

A Final note, from Emma to you:

In the world of tutus, it's all about making that special statement and having a bit of fun. Whether it's a grand classical tutu, or a quirky recycled creation, wear it with pride, confidence, and a dash of pink, darling! Don't forget to tell your friends about the magic of the tutu.

As a time traveler and a ballerina, I love nothing more than discovering new tutu creations around the world! I have travelled by train across Europe, visiting beautiful fashion stores and vintage shops on the continent, to hunt for new and unique tutu finds. From the glamorous haute couture of Paris, to the creative street style of London, the world of tutus never fails to amaze me.

If you're like me, and you absolutely adore a good train journey and a little fashion exploration, I encourage you to plan a trip! The perfect time for me to get to visit Paris is September to October. I love visiting Paris during these months because of the Paris Fashion Week. The energy in the air is palpable, the city is brimming with creativity, and there's something special about experiencing the artistry of couture at this time. If you love a bit of vintage and fashion, be sure to pop by the vintage boutiques and antique markets in the Marais District of Paris - that's a real hotspot for vintage fashion! You'll find so many fabulous treasures, from head-turning tutus to delightful vintage hats. Who knows what amazing vintage tutu gems you'll uncover?

You can also find some truly stunning tutu accessories around the รŽle de la Citรฉ - home to the iconic Notre-Dame Cathedral - with exquisite brooches, rings and hairpins just waiting to be found! And be sure to pop by the gorgeous shop, L'ร‰toile S'Habille - you will love the array of ballerina fashion accessories, ballet pumps and shoes, plus fabulous headbands to keep your hair perfect, so no pesky hair falling out while dancing.

Speaking of dance - one of my favorite parts of visiting Paris is the amazing theatre scene. If you're planning a visit to Paris in September to October - be sure to try and get tickets to watch one of the performances by the famous Paris Opera Ballet, or a breathtaking show at the Palais Garnier.

Whether you're taking a journey across continents, or venturing to the ballet, let's spread the magic of tutus, together! ๐Ÿฉฐ๐Ÿ’–

Yours, in tutus, Emma xx
