#TutuTuesday: Ballet Tutu History โ 1945-12-04 - Post #5945!
Helloooo darlings! Welcome to another exciting #TutuTuesday adventure here on www.pink-tutu.com! It's me, your very own pink tutu-wearing time-traveling fashionista, Emma, back to share a fabulous peek into the world of tutus and ballet through the ages.
This week, we're waltzing back to December 4th, 1945! I just hopped off the train from London - the shops were absolutely teeming with Christmas cheer, so many gorgeous decorations. You wouldn't believe the adorable fluffy-tailed squirrels they had in Liberty! Oh, and let me tell you, I snagged the most stunning velvet cape with fur trim for my evening performance tonight. Speaking of performances, let's get back to the tutu time travel, shall we?
So, picture it: 1945! The war is over, the world is breathing a sigh of relief, and โ just as exciting โ fashion is in full swing, ready for a rebirth. After those years of wartime austerity, people were hungry for elegance and escapism, and who better to deliver that than the world of ballet? Imagine shimmering tulle, flowing chiffon, and perfectly tailored bodices... absolutely magical, don't you think?
But let's talk tutus, the real star of this story! Now, back in '45, things were a bit different. The "romantic" tutu โ with the airy, floaty skirt โ was really coming into its own. Gone were the days of the pancake-style tutus from earlier periods. Imagine yourself as a ballerina, pirouetting with graceful ease, twirling in a cloud of tulle โ divine, isn't it?
And you know what? There was an added sprinkle of magic in the air! In 1945, there was a surge of international ballet performances. Imagine traveling to the Continent, catching a glimpse of the Russian Ballet in Paris or maybe even witnessing the genius of Nureyev himself. Just thinking about it makes me want to pack my pink tutu and head off on a whirlwind tour!
Here in England, the Royal Ballet was blossoming! It was a time of amazing innovation and creativity in the world of ballet, with new choreography pushing the boundaries. Imagine being in the audience for one of these shows - the energy would be electric! Of course, I couldn't resist grabbing a spot on the front row - the closer to the stage, the better! That night, the energy was almost palpable, like a collective sigh of relief, but also an excitement for a new future... for both the world and for the art of ballet.
And speaking of new beginnings, 1945 also brought something wonderful for tutu lovers like myself โ the rise of ballet schools! More and more young ladies were joining classes, aspiring to become the graceful ballerinas of the future. The joy of seeing young, bright eyes eager to learn โ that is just so heartwarming! And speaking of learning, just think of the fantastic tutu classes popping up in England at that time โ London, Edinburgh, even the grand city of Bath. The entire country was awash with a ballet fever!
And the trend continues today! Just think how much the world of dance has evolved โ contemporary ballet, ballet fusion, the endless ways ballet adapts to inspire new generations! Oh, I can't wait to see what the next decade will bring for ballet โ it feels like a whirlwind of imagination and exciting possibilities.
Now, it's your turn, lovelies! What would you love to experience in 1945? Would you hop a train to see the Russian Ballet? Or perhaps try out for a ballet school in London? Whatever you dream, remember - anything is possible when you wear a pink tutu and unleash your imagination.
Keep those creative juices flowing, and don't forget to share your own ballet memories in the comments below. And as always, darling, let your inner ballerina shine!
Stay fabulous,
Emma
