Tutu Tuesday: The 1947 Whirlwind! 🩰✨
Hey there, lovelies! 💋 It's your favourite tutu-tastic blogger, Emma, back with another edition of #TutuTuesday! Can you believe we've reached post number 6002?! Time flies when you're twirling in a pink dream! This week we're stepping back in time to the 1940s, a period brimming with post-war optimism and, yes, amazing fashion! 💖
Let's travel back in a magical train ride of tutus, shall we? Imagine a world just out of a global conflict, ready to embrace all things joyful. While we’re looking at tutus, the world was starting to reawaken to the power of fashion as a way to celebrate life again. It’s hard to imagine a world without fashion. We had all those amazing dresses and skirts just waiting to be danced in, just like we're waiting to wear those tutus! It's such a happy era for ballet as well, all the way from the opulent stages of London to the bright lights of Broadway. Ballet became even more popular in this period!
Oh, you simply wouldn't believe what's happening in the ballet world today! Imagine this, on 7th January 1947, we’re treated to a sensational production of “Giselle” at the Royal Opera House. Such a classic! Think graceful leaps and captivating storytelling, a truly spellbinding experience. And wouldn't you know it, a certain young ballerina called Moira Shearer stole the show! This would later inspire me on my first trip back to the 1940s where I did the impossible - got tickets for the show! Talk about dream come true! 🥰
Back in my own time, though, the fashion trends are all about femininity. Think swirling skirts, playful peplums, and tutus, of course! That's what the post-war era is all about! In this day and age, tutus weren't just for the stage anymore. They were embraced by every fashion-forward lady - and why not? Think of all the twirls, twirls, and twirls that you could manage! They were just as captivating and whimsical on the streets as they were under the spotlight. And of course, with a little bit of imagination and flair, a simple tutu can be just as elegant on a walk in the park as at the Royal Opera House. You’d be surprised what you can do with an old piece of net and some creativity! 🪡
And that brings us to the colour pink! Ah, pink, my absolute favourite! So vibrant and joyful. 💝 This colour really blossomed in the 1940s! In this time period, think pretty shades of peach and ballet slippers with those pink-tinged bows, even little girl’s dresses… All of it is positively drenched in this lovely shade! As a ballerina blogger, how could I not wear it everywhere? We really should all wear more pink – it simply brightens everyone’s day, darling! It’s a colour of fun, of optimism, and, dare I say, whimsy, just like the tutus themselves! It brings such joy into the world – it even encourages us all to "think pink"! 💕
So, what to do to honour the era's flair? Why, we get twirling, darlings! Get those tutus ready - no matter what your size, style, or shade, let’s embrace this post-war sparkle and celebrate life! 🤸♀️ Don't forget to take a photo of your most glamorous tutu look and tag #TutuTuesday! And don't be shy, send your tutu photos!
See you all next Tuesday for a new adventure in the wonderful world of ballet history! 😘
Stay pink, my dear friends!Emma, the pink tutu loving blogger
