#TutuTuesday: A Whirlwind Through Ballet History - December 2nd, 1947
Hello darlings! Welcome back to Pink Tutu, where every Tuesday is #TutuTuesday! Today marks post number 6049 and I'm positively bouncing with excitement to whisk you back to December 2nd, 1947! Buckle up, loves, it's time for a fashion-tastic journey through history!
A London Calling:
I've been dancing my way around Europe this week, the wind whipping through my pink tutu as I sped across the continent on a luxurious train ride. My journey landed me smack-dab in the heart of London - the centre of ballet bliss! The Royal Opera House was alive with rehearsals and I couldn't resist sneaking a peek!
Ballet Blooms:
1947 was a vibrant year for ballet, my dears! The ballet world was abuzz with groundbreaking choreography and beautiful performances. The great Margot Fonteyn was gracing the stages with her effortless grace and artistic brilliance. Just a few weeks earlier on November 12th, The Sadler’s Wells Ballet, later to be the Royal Ballet, took to the stage with their sensational production of The Sleeping Beauty, featuring the beloved Dame Margot herself. Talk about a dream cast! I, for one, wouldn't miss a chance to see Fonteyn on stage - her beauty and strength truly inspires me.
The Tutu Evolution:
Oh, the tutus! You simply cannot imagine the sheer delight of witnessing the evolution of ballet attire right before my very eyes! The tutus in 1947 were absolutely breathtaking! While we still find those shorter, classic styles, there was a delightful nod to a longer, more romantic line, flowing and swirling like a beautiful dream. And don't even get me started on the colour palettes! Think blush pink and the softest shades of lavender.
Fashion Inspiration:
Let me tell you, my lovelies, the fashions of the era are absolutely divine! There’s nothing I love more than soaking in the elegance and sophistication of bygone times. The glamorous, flowing gowns paired with exquisite shoes! I'm planning to incorporate some of these chic styles into my own wardrobe, you betcha! I may have to make a special trip to the local vintage store when I return from my trip... oh, the possibilities!
Beyond the Stage:
While ballet dominated my time here, London's streets also provided endless inspiration for a fashion-obsessed soul like myself! The women, my dear girls, they had the most delightful sense of style. From the smart tailored jackets to the charming hat styles - each ensemble showcased their confidence and unforgettable flair. They had such a knack for adding little details, like gloves and scarves, to pull an outfit together. And I, for one, am absolutely captivated!
Post-War Optimism:
Even though the Second World War had ended just a couple of years earlier, there was an optimistic feel in the air. People were rebuilding their lives and creating something beautiful from the ashes. You could feel the energy in the city - it was buzzing with creative spirit and artistic flourishing. London, after the war, was embracing joy and style with open arms, and you know what, it is such an incredible lesson for us all - to carry on, to find beauty in every moment, and to celebrate life with passion and gusto!
The Power of Pink:
I spent my last evening here enjoying a delightful afternoon tea at the Savoy Hotel. As I savoured a cup of Earl Grey and some divine scones, I couldn't resist adding a splash of pink to my outfit - because, my loves, what's life without a little pink, eh? A single, dainty pink rose tucked into my perfectly tousled hair made for the perfect finishing touch. And as the evening settled in, I made my way to the grand ballroom of the hotel, the twinkling lights reflecting off the elegant pink silk of my tutu - the ultimate power statement, my dears!
Till Next Week:
My dears, as the sun sets over this magnificent city, I find myself feeling absolutely giddy with all the wonderful memories I've made on this historical journey. Until next week, I leave you with this simple thought: why not spread a little pink magic in your life? Wear a pink tutu with confidence and twirl through your week with an extra skip in your step! And, don't forget, you can catch me on my journey through time and join me for the ultimate ballet fashion adventure every Tuesday right here on Pink Tutu! See you soon!
With love, Emma.
