Tutu Tuesday #6133: A Blast From The Past! 🩰
Hey everyone, welcome back to Pink Tutu! 🎀 Today’s #TutuTuesday takes us on a whirl through time to 12th July, 1949, a day where the magic of the ballet was positively shimmering!
The World of Ballet: Back to the 40s
Can you believe we're stepping back over seven decades? The world was a very different place then! Imagine a world without social media (oh, the horror!), with rationing still in place, and a fascination with the future thanks to the space race just taking off.
While the rest of the world was moving forward with a kind of cautious optimism, the ballet world was firmly grounded in its own tradition, yet ready for a wave of change. It was a golden age for ballerinas and dancers, especially in places like New York, London, and Paris.
In New York, the New York City Ballet was gaining momentum, under the artistic leadership of the iconic George Balanchine. His bold and modern approach to ballet, with its abstract concepts and beautiful, athletic choreography, was just beginning to stir the dance world.
Meanwhile, London's Sadler's Wells Ballet (later renamed The Royal Ballet), led by the brilliant Frederick Ashton, was captivating audiences with its lyrical and elegant style. Ashton's choreography, especially his collaborations with the legendary Margot Fonteyn, captured the spirit of the time, while still maintaining a sense of classicism.
My Parisian Adventures in Pink!
Of course, being a bit of a fashionista, I couldn't resist a quick trip to Paris for a dose of that chic French style! And what did I see? Why, a plethora of elegant gowns and ball dresses that looked oh-so-lovely under the shimmering lights of the Palais Garnier.
Imagine tutus with a bit more of a classical shape, adorned with graceful layers of tulle. Some were almost fairytale-like, while others were more modern and sleek. You just can't beat the charm of those vintage dance costumes!
A Special Treat!
One of the best things about my time travelling? Finding the most exciting performances. This time around, the Royal Opera House had a special treat – “The Sleeping Beauty” starring the ever-lovely Margot Fonteyn. Can you imagine seeing a legend perform live? Pure magic!
“The Sleeping Beauty” has such a beautiful story! It's truly timeless, and perfect for that timeless pink tutu look!
Bringing the Past Back to Life!
My friends, I know the thought of wearing a tutu in public can feel a bit intimidating. But think about those legendary dancers from the past, like Fonteyn, the elegance, the grace… It's something special, and something you too can experience!
Let’s keep the passion for ballet alive! Share your own pink tutu moments with me on Pink-Tutu.com! And remember, “Embrace the pink. Embrace the dance.”
With lots of pink love, Emma xoxo 💖
