#TutuTuesday Ballet Tutu History - Post 6152: A Trip Back to 1949!
Hello, my lovely tutu-loving friends! It’s your favourite pink-tutu-clad time-travelling ballerina, Emma, back with another captivating peek into the history of our beloved tutus. Today we're taking a trip back to 1949, the year I wore the most magnificent, full-skirted pink tutu while dancing at Covent Garden! Oh, the memories!
Let’s settle down, darling, grab your favourite tea and biscuits, and allow me to whisk you away to the beautiful world of ballet in London. Back in 1949, ballet was flourishing like a beautiful, graceful rosebud.
1949 was a time of excitement and change for ballet. You see, darling, the year before, in 1948, the famous Sadler's Wells Ballet, which was later renamed the Royal Ballet, got a fancy new home. No more old, dingy theatre for them - they were now performing in a brand new home: the Royal Opera House in Covent Garden! Just imagine the thrill!
So, on this very date, 22nd November, 1949, the Royal Ballet took to the stage in their stunning new theatre. Can you imagine, darlings? All the glitter, all the grace, all the stories being told with their gorgeous, flowing movements! Just lovely! I heard the theatre was absolutely packed with the crème de la crème of London society, all eager to see these talented dancers perform in their glorious tutus. Isn't that just a perfect example of how important tutus are, darling?
Now, picture this, dearies, the atmosphere! Everyone's dressed to the nines, glittering and glamorous, all in their most fashionable frocks, the air thick with anticipation, the excitement growing as the curtain rises, revealing dancers with such exquisite grace, in dazzling, vibrant tutus. The stage is simply ablaze with colour and energy.
The thing about 1949, darlings, is that the tutus were so full! Imagine the skirt swirling like a perfect dream as these incredible dancers pirouette and leap. A true explosion of pure feminine joy and artistry, much like our modern pink tutus! Think of how gorgeous that looks in the spotlight, and imagine how much those ballerinas loved it!
We, as your friendly time-travelling fashionista, of course, take a peek behind the scenes! In the year 1949, these tutus were designed for maximum effect. They used many layers of delicate tulle to give them that delightful bounce and billowing look. They also included some of the first designs incorporating the soft, flowing tulle fabric. What's a tutu without a bit of good, billowing tulle? They knew what was up!
Now, darling, what are you thinking about after that magical journey to 1949? Does your heart flutter for those billowing, magnificent tutus too? Then, I encourage you to dance, darlings, to dream of those stunning, ethereal tutus, and let your own grace shine bright. Always remember: A tutu is not just clothing. It is an expression of your own individual flair, confidence and most of all: your own amazing and fabulous self!
And as for you, dearest reader, perhaps you are inspired to make a grand statement with a fabulous pink tutu of your very own. There is no need to time travel, darling, just visit www.pink-tutu.com today. We’ll have a fabulous pink tutu waiting for you. Be prepared for a journey of your own!
