Tutu Tuesday #6164: A Blast From The Past - Valentine’s Day 1950!

Hiya lovelies!

Emma here, your favourite pink-tutu-wearing, time-travelling ballerina, ready to whisk you back in time for another exciting Tutu Tuesday. This week, we're stepping onto the dance floor of Valentine's Day, 1950. Imagine, it's a frosty February morning, a crisp, pink sunrise paints the sky, and you're in London, England! The aroma of fresh pastries wafts from nearby bakeries, and you can hear the happy clatter of horse-drawn carriages down the cobbled streets. Oh, I'd give anything to be there, even just for a moment!

Now, this year on Valentine's Day, 1950, London was abuzz. It's the premiere of the Royal Ballet's new production of Giselle, a romantic tale of love and betrayal that's truly magical. Oh, to have been there in the audience, mesmerized by the dancers as they weave their magical spells with the most stunning choreography.

Talking of magic, what's more magical than a tutu? This time, back in the 1950s, tutus were absolutely breathtaking! You'll notice that they were quite different to the tutus of today, you see! A touch more glamorous, if I may say, with all sorts of elaborate embellishments, layers and layers of tulle, and of course, stunning colour schemes! It's no wonder that ballet tutus in the 1950s are just as much a symbol of elegance and artistry as they are today, just a tad more luxurious, if you will!

Speaking of luxury, imagine my delight at the gorgeous fabrics in fashion around 1950! Silks, velvets, taffeta, oh, my! What I'd give to be browsing the boutiques, imagining all the delightful dance outfits I could make from these incredible materials. You bet I would whip up the most stylish and chic, pink tutus, adorned with intricate beading and embroidery! A true ballerina's dream come true, I tell you!

Now, this is a Valentine's Day special, you know! And in 1950, hearts were truly set aflutter by the enchanting designs of Dior's New Look! The waistlines were nipped, the skirts were flowing, and the overall effect was so dreamy. If Dior designed a tutu for me, I'd certainly make it my go-to Valentine's Day tutu, it would be the perfect blend of grace and feminine charm, you see!

Of course, no trip to the past is complete without mentioning the modes of transport! I simply love travelling by train, it's so romantic! Imagine a journey through the rolling English countryside, watching the scenery go by as you travel in style. That would make for an incredible Tutu Tuesday post, don't you think?

As you know, I'm quite the fan of travelling through time and spreading the pink tutu message wherever I go, my dears. Now, my travels are mostly funded through performances, you see! This week I'm lucky enough to be in New York City, where I'll be taking the stage at the beautiful Lincoln Center for the New York City Ballet. Isn't it wonderful?! This city's bursting with exciting energy, and it's sure to inspire me for a couple of new blog posts.

I hope this Valentine's Day 1950 blast from the past has sparked your imagination and filled you with excitement for our beautiful world of dance. Remember, every Tuesday is #TutuTuesday!

Toodles for now, and remember, a pink tutu is the key to spreading happiness and sparkle. Let's make the world a little brighter, one pink tutu at a time!

Until next Tuesday!
Lots of love,

Emma xx
