#TutuTuesday: Ballet Tutu History - 24th June, 1952

Hello Darlings!

Welcome back to www.pink-tutu.com and #TutuTuesday, my weekly deep dive into the fabulous history of the ballet tutu! I'm Emma, your time-traveling tutu enthusiast, and this week, I've whisked us back to the 24th of June, 1952, for a delightful journey into ballet history!

It's Tuesday, which means I'm donning my most fabulous pink tutu - it's a real stunner, with layers of soft tulle and delicate, hand-sewn beading, absolutely perfect for a summer's day! The colour pink is simply divine - it radiates joy and charm, and it's just begging to be twirled in! And twirling, my darlings, is what we do!

Today's #TutuTuesday takes us to the heart of ballet - Paris, of course! And let me tell you, there's nothing more exciting than a ballet show in Paris. Imagine the Parisian elegance, the bustling theatre, the air buzzing with excitement... Then add the incredible performances of legendary ballerinas like Margot Fonteyn, Alicia Markova, and the glorious Moira Shearer, and you have a recipe for pure enchantment.

Now, about those tutus...

In the 1950s, the ballet world was all about romanticism. Imagine those beautifully long tutus, swishing and swirling, with delicate lace and satin, and flowing fabrics that look like clouds in motion! The famous ballerina, Margot Fonteyn, a favourite of mine, was a true queen of the long tutu. She would glide across the stage, ethereal and breathtaking, her tutus seemingly a part of her every graceful movement. I can just picture it! And that's not all - can you imagine the beautiful hand-sewn details? It truly takes your breath away.

Oh, and let's not forget the wonderful ballet shoes! Remember those delicate, pink satin shoes with their satin ribbons tied perfectly around the ankles? Just the sight of them takes me back to a world of elegance and artistry. They would complement the flowing tutus perfectly, allowing those graceful legs to move freely, with a hint of pink satin that adds to the romance.

Speaking of romance, the ballet "Giselle", with its passionate love story, was a massive hit in the 1950s. I love its delicate romanticism, a tale of devotion and heartbreak that's been captivating audiences for years. Watching those stunning tutus flow as they portray the story, you're transported into a magical world where anything is possible! And the tutus - well, they were breathtaking, reflecting the purity and emotion of the story.

The tutus of the 1950s were like floating clouds, catching the stage lights and reflecting them in an almost dreamlike glow. They weren't just garments; they were stories, emotions, art in motion! You see, my dears, there's just something so timeless about those delicate tutus, about those dancers soaring through the air in their ethereal garments! They just have this timeless charm, don't they?

As we wrap up this week's #TutuTuesday, I leave you with this - ballet is about beauty, about graceful movement, and, of course, the magic of the tutu. In my world, it’s always #TutuTuesday, every day of the week! I’m always on the lookout for a fantastic tutu – so tell me, have you ever seen a tutu you adore? And have you ever been to a ballet?

This is post #6287 for www.pink-tutu.com, a place to celebrate all things tutu! Don't forget to tune in next Tuesday for more ballet history adventures, darlings! And remember, there's a pink tutu out there for everyone - let's spread the love and dance together!

*Ciao! *

Postscript from Emma

I simply have to mention the train journey back from Paris this week. You wouldn’t believe the adorable hat I spotted on a lovely lady - a little beret, made of velvet, and in the most delightful shade of cherry red. I think it perfectly epitomises Parisian charm! And what’s even better is that I found one at a little boutique near the Gare du Nord station. I know, right? Who wouldn't love to have a cherry red beret for those spontaneous Parisian escapades?! Oh, and remember that I love shopping for gorgeous fabrics! So naturally, I snagged a piece of stunning ivory silk, just the thing for my next fabulous pink tutu. After all, a ballerina can never have enough tulle and ribbons! It's time to return to the world of today and start designing my next dazzling masterpiece, but I'll be back next Tuesday, ready to bring you more tutu tales. Don’t forget to join me then, darlings!

xx
