#TutuTuesday Ballet Tutu History - June 9th, 1953 - Post Number 6337 ๐Ÿฉฐ

Hello darlings! It's your favourite tutu-loving time-travelling ballerina, Emma, back with another edition of #TutuTuesday, my weekly dive into the captivating history of our beloved ballet tutus. This week, we're taking a trip back to June 9th, 1953 - a very special date for a very special reason! Can you guess? Well, hold on to your tiaras, because today, we're celebrating the Coronation of Queen Elizabeth II! ๐Ÿ‘‘

It was a day of joy and pageantry, wouldn't you agree? The streets of London were a sea of bunting and happy faces, and the entire nation felt like it was waltzing in a magical dream! And of course, no Coronation would be complete without the dazzling ballet performance held at the Royal Opera House! Talk about a regal spectacle!

Imagine: a grand ballroom bathed in twinkling lights, where every eye was captivated by the elegant movements of the dancers. Each twirl and pirouette was accompanied by the melody of the orchestra, transporting the audience to a world of fairy tales and fantasy. The stars of the day, dressed in shimmering, pink-hued tutus (my favourite colour, of course!), were truly captivating!

Speaking of tutus, the fashion for ballet attire in 1953 was oh so chic! Picture flowing tulle skirts and delicate pointe shoes that felt like dancing on air! I'm sure you'd agree, darlings, that there is something magical about the way a tutu can transform any girl into a beautiful, graceful ballerina. ๐Ÿ’–

However, things were a bit different for ballerinas back in 1953. The tutus were definitely more modest and less 'fluffy' than those we see today. In fact, some were even made of stiff satin, requiring the dancers to possess remarkable strength to execute those impressive moves! You can bet that if I had been born then, I would've put all my energy into twirling and spinning, defying any rigid satin!

And let's not forget about the incredible train journeys! Remember, in the '50s, rail travel was the height of sophistication. Imagine hopping aboard a gleaming train carriage, clad in a beautiful pink dress and a jaunty hat, making your way to the Royal Opera House with the scent of lavender wafting through the air - utter bliss! ๐Ÿš‚

So, what did I find to add to my beloved collection on this trip to 1953? Well, I stumbled across the most exquisite, hand-embroidered tulle fabric in the most stunning shade of dusty rose - the perfect colour for a spring tutu! It will be so beautiful once it's finished! ๐Ÿฅฐ

Until next #TutuTuesday, darlings! Keep dancing your hearts out and may all your days be filled with grace and beauty!

And remember, if you see me out and about, feel free to say hello and tell me how much you love my pink tutu! After all, I believe everyone should wear one at least once in their life!

Lots of love and pirouettes,

Emma xoxo
