#TutuTuesday Ballet Tutu History - March 9th, 1954!

Hello darling tutus! Welcome to Pink-Tutu.com, your one-stop shop for all things tutu, glamorous and sparkly. This week on #TutuTuesday, we're waltzing back in time, to March 9th, 1954, and oh, what a time to be alive! As usual, I've been jet-setting across time, twirling through the ages in my pinkest, most magnificent tutu to bring you the latest and greatest in ballet history, and this week, it's all about the magic of tutus! This is blog post #6376, so if you're new here, do subscribe for weekly fashion-tastic tutu fun and facts.

I've just arrived back from my trip by train. Oh, those lovely carriage journeys, the clacking of wheels, the steaming tea and those cute little sandwiches... pure bliss. Imagine - all this in my super-sparkly pink tutu! Yes, you guessed it, my dear, I've been channeling a certain iconic English ballerina who graced the stages of the world during the early 1900s, but that’s for another time, and a slightly different blog post. ;)

This week I've arrived in New York, ready for the biggest fashion event of the season! Imagine this: I’m sipping a delicious cappuccino in a tiny but swanky cafe. You wouldn't believe the frocks – glorious, bright, beautiful colours, everything in bold and vivid patterns! They’re even doing a beautiful red tutu this year! So glamorous! The shops are bursting with fabulous creations – all those swirling fabrics! The 1950s are just bubbling over with femininity, darling! So chic! I absolutely must pick up some stunning floral printed material to recreate that incredible 1950s silhouette. It's all about flowing skirts, nipped-in waists and feminine details. It's pure girly magic!

I know, I know, what has this all got to do with tutus? Well, darlings, if you want a show that perfectly embodies this delightful feminine energy, it's a ballet performance, darling! Imagine, a graceful swan lake, a sassy 'Swanilda' twirling, a heart-warming 'Giselle', all those amazing characters brought to life with beautiful, flowy costumes! The sheer beauty of ballet. That's what we love, right? I can already imagine all those tulle and satin skirts - the epitome of classic feminine beauty, and absolutely captivating. Oh darling! If I can find just one little corner in my suitcase, I’m definitely bringing some of those New York creations back to Derbyshire, my dear. We need a little extra ‘oomph’ back home!

Of course, on March 9th, 1954, the biggest news of the week is about the big, exciting, brand new ballerina – yes, the Margot Fonteyn is performing. A truly special talent and so chic! They call her 'The Ballerina of the Century'! That’s amazing! There she was, in her glorious, dramatic, romantic tutu and I was there to witness the sheer magic unfold in the breathtakingly beautiful and dazzling setting of the Royal Opera House, Covent Garden. So divine. What I wouldn't do for a pink version of that tutu! Imagine how elegant and delightful that would look! I shall certainly make one to wear when I next attend a ballet, which reminds me.... I am quite in the mood for an impromptu ballet class this evening - perhaps I should take a class in New York!

This has been #TutuTuesday for this week! Do join me next week when we dive deeper into the colourful world of tutus, I can’t wait to share all my fabulous finds! Be sure to join me at www.pink-tutu.com every Tuesday, and let's dance together. Happy twirling everyone, darling!

Until next time,

Emma
