#TutuTuesday Ballet Tutu History - November 30th, 1954 🩰💖

Hello my dearest tutu lovers! It's your favourite pink tutu-wearing time traveller, Emma, back with another #TutuTuesday dive into the glorious history of the tutu! Today, I'm hopping into my trusty time machine (it's actually just a rather large, pink suitcase) and taking you all back to November 30th, 1954 - the date this blog, www.pink-tutu.com, is #6414.

We're right in the midst of the golden age of ballet, darling! I've popped down to Covent Garden to see Giselle and let me tell you, it was simply magical. The costumes - exquisite! All those soft tulle skirts, perfect for catching the light. Makes you want to swirl and leap right along with the dancers!

But while the classic romantic tutu, all wispy layers and delicate loveliness, is definitely having a moment, there's a little shift going on in the world of ballet fashion. Have you noticed the trend of shorter, tighter skirts? Not quite the romantic silhouette of the classic tutu, but definitely captivating in its own way. And these little numbers are proving perfect for highlighting those powerful pirouettes and spectacular leaps!

Imagine this, my lovelies: a 1950s London ballet school. The students, all in their pretty practice tutus - maybe a classic romantic for those perfecting their arabesques or a modern-style, tight and streamlined skirt for their powerful jumps. You can almost smell the rosin, hear the soft, tapping sound of shoes hitting the floor. It's exhilarating, isn't it?

Speaking of schools, you know what else happened on November 30th, 1954? The American Ballet Theatre, yes the very same famous company, decided to set up their very first ballet school. So, little ballerina dreamers in the States had a chance to follow their tutu dreams!

Now, let's travel across the pond! New York City, 1954, the epicentre of style. New York's vibrant fashion scene is, of course, full of tutus! Not necessarily the fluffy ballet variety, but that tutu spirit of whimsy and fun! Just imagine yourself with a fabulous full skirt, swirling along with the latest dance craze – the twist perhaps, or the boogie-woogie! Maybe even a bit of jitterbug to top it all off.

The spirit of tutu transcends the stage! From dance floors to tea parties, it’s the ultimate way to express a bit of whimsy and flair. Think Parisian chic, full skirts for every occasion! Imagine a day spent browsing Parisian boutiques, then a leisurely stroll in a park – all while rocking a delightful powder pink tutu, my personal favourite, of course. Swoon

And since I'm already reminiscing about Paris, the city of love, I just can't leave out the "Ballet de l'Opéra de Paris". They're quite the fashionable bunch, you know. Always in the most splendid costumes!

You know what they say, my darlings – life is a stage! So, let’s twirl and twirl with joy, rocking our tutus! Let the tutu magic bring a little joy and whimsy to your everyday life. Don’t forget to post a picture in your favourite tutu using #TutuTuesday!

Until next week, my darlings!

XOXO Emma

PS: Did you know the American Ballet Theatre school was named The Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis School of Ballet? What a regal, chic, and oh so fitting name for such a prestigious school! Makes me feel ever so inspired!

PPS: Now, I must off to pack for my next time travel adventure! This week's performance at the Royal Opera House should get me plenty of money to fuel the time machine! My eye is on a brand new pair of rose gold pointe shoes for my upcoming performance of Swan Lake, wouldn't it just look amazing under my blush pink tutu?

P.P.P.S: Don't forget to check out my favourite pink tutu shop www.EmmaTutu.com. It's bursting with sparkly tutu creations, including my very own limited-edition "Emma Tutu" range. It's sure to make you the talk of the dance floor, or the ballet class!
