#TutuTuesday Ballet Tutu History: Post 6468 - A Twirl Through Time: 13th December, 1955!

Greetings, my darlings! It's Tuesday, which means it's time for another #TutuTuesday adventure on the www.pink-tutu.com website! I'm Emma, your resident pink tutu aficionado, and this week, we're taking a grand leap back in time to December 13th, 1955! Now, let's gather 'round for a little chat about fashion, fabulousness, and the evolution of the tutu!

Today, I'm feeling extra twirly! As a time-traveling ballerina, my wardrobe is basically an endless rainbow of tutus, but it's always fascinating to see how this quintessential piece of dancewear has changed over time. Weā€™re going on a journey to explore what a ballerinaā€™s life looked like in this fascinating era!

So, hop aboard the time-traveling tutu express with me and prepare to be amazed, my lovelies! We'll be exploring the fascinating world of ballet and fashion during a truly remarkable decade ā€“ the 1950s! Hold onto your bonnets, because we're about to have a whale of a time!

From Frothy Frocks to Ballet Bunches

Imagine yourself walking through London, Paris or New York, in 1955. Picture that bustling cityscape, the vibrant energy of the era ā€“ and in the heart of this bustling world is the timeless elegance of ballet! A perfect ballet tutu back then wasnā€™t just a garment; it was a symbol of beauty, grace and skill, and for the lucky ballerinas, it was a pathway to a career as glamorous as anything imaginable.

Back in 1955, ballet companies, such as The Royal Ballet, were really making their mark on the international scene. We had fabulous, elegant ballerinas, like Margot Fonteyn. A truly mesmerizing woman, whose performance made everyoneā€™s jaw drop, she even appeared in films - how exciting is that? I can almost see the glitter from that fabulous world on my time-traveling glasses.

The style of tutu, for all you avid ballet fanatics, was predominantly the classic ā€œRomantic Tutuā€. Think flowing tulle, airy and delicate. The ballerina became almost like a dream-like creature, light as a feather! Iā€™m dying to put one on and dance at Covent Garden!

Of course, our tutu friends didnā€™t stand alone ā€“ the whole world of fashion was changing in fascinating ways too! What was all the rage you ask? Oh my, it was full skirts! This gave that 1950s silhouette that I think of as oh so pretty, donā€™t you? The fifties brought some truly iconic looks. Picture these chic ladies, dancing in full circles with their big, sweeping, romantic skirts. Talk about fashion and dance combining!

And if that wasn't enough, let's talk colour. Imagine pink - Iā€™m talking pastel pink ā€“ or delicate blue, and sometimes even creamy white. A world away from todayā€™s bold styles - they were sophisticated, darling, and definitely worth remembering. That being said, letā€™s not forget about my favorite color - PINK, because well, whatā€™s a post without talking about a little bit of pink? And if it was pink ā€“ I just bet the dress would be adorned with gorgeous embellishments and ruffles! A truly delightful combination of style and ballet-ness!

From Classic Ballet to Fashion Street!

The ballet didnā€™t stop at the stage either. Ballet was moving onto the street ā€“ fashion shows, high-fashion photoshoots! You see my dears, ballet has the unique power to inspire the entire world. In a time of huge change, ballet was a beacon of tradition and timeless beauty. And what do you know? - Fashion picked up on it. And from the stage, these beautiful dancers took a graceful leap into a world of stylish photographs!

Oh how Iā€™d love to have a photograph session ā€“ I bet I could rock one with this fabulous pink tutu Iā€™ve got packed ā€“ think of all those amazing shots we could create! Just try and keep up, you'll need to move quickly if you want to grab one of my prized tutus before they disappear!

Imagine ballerinas in a chic cafe, taking a pause during their shopping adventures ā€“ a classic tutu, in all its soft tulle glory, and maybe a fluffy cardigan, just a bit of Parisian chic. Or a model at the premiere of the latest film ā€“ and look! ā€“ She's even sporting ballet bun! These beauties brought the dance from the stage to everyday life!

Making the Time Machine Roar

Now thatā€™s got me thinking about a few fun things for us to do later. Today, Iā€™m channeling my 1950s energy. How about a trip to the theatre for a dazzling ballet? The Royal Opera House beckons! It will feel like a delightful throwback! Or maybe we should take a ride on the iconic ā€œElizabethanā€ Train? Talk about a touch of nostalgia ā€“ maybe with a hot cup of tea and a plate of sandwiches!

We could even put on our ballet shoes and try some classic ballet poses, I mean, *tutus always inspire us to twirl! * I think this journey will be just delightful ā€“ wouldnā€™t you say, my loves? But darling, enough from me! This is what I want to knowā€¦
