#TutuTuesday Ballet Tutu History: 1956-08-21 (Post 6504)
Bonjour, darling dancers! Emma here, your very own pink-tutu-clad time traveller, reporting from the wonderful world of 1956. This week's #TutuTuesday takes us back to a time when tutus were taking a centre stage of a different kind - the stage of fashion itself.
Oh my, the 1950s were just so delightful. There was such a lovely romanticism to fashion. The styles were so feminine. But alas, even back then the humble tutu wasn't yet enjoying the widespread adoration it deserves. Sadly, the ballet-world was pretty much the only place you were likely to see a proper, full-blown tulle creation.
Let's Talk Paris
However, here I am in Paris, and guess what? Even back in 1956, Parisian ladies knew what's what when it comes to looking absolutely stunning. Even without a full-on tutu, you'll find layers of net, tulle, and petticoats to create that romantic, floating effect - so much fun! It's almost like the tutus have seeped into everyday life through their delightful silhouette and airy feel.
I must say, this trip was especially delightful because I actually got to see Cinderalla on stage, with the original costumes and choreography! Can you imagine? A proper fairytale dream right in front of my eyes! And let me tell you, the tutus worn by the dancers were divine - all airy lightness and romantic sparkle. Oh, it truly set my heart aflutter!
A Little Something Special
But that's not all! For this week's special #TutuTuesday, we're also taking a peek at some amazing tutus being designed in Paris, just around the corner! Oh, how I love to shop in this gorgeous city! The colours! The details! Heaven!. A beautiful beige satin tutu for a show that captures the essence of classical elegance. I can't help but be charmed by this traditional touch. I mean, don't get me wrong - I'm always drawn to those dazzling, showstopping pinks! But this beige tutu just radiates classic ballet beauty and reminds us that sometimes, less is so much more.
Tutu Travels
My dear readers, my current travels have been filled with such amazing opportunities to indulge in the enchanting world of fashion and ballet! The train journeys through the French countryside were filled with the most adorable ladies wearing skirts with a slight tulle puff here and there, and even a little bit of tutu-inspired flair in the hems. I simply love how a little bit of tutu magic can transform any outfit! It adds a touch of grace, whimsy, and just a hint of that elegant dance.
Keep Those Tutu Dreams Alive!
So, my fellow tutu lovers, wherever you are, whatever year it is, never give up on your tutu dreams! I've seen it firsthand; the world of fashion is full of exciting changes and the tutu is clearly having a moment. I'm betting it will only become more popular. We just need to keep sharing the tutu love and tutu dreams with everyone.
My Mission: Pink Tutues for All
But, I confess, I still haven't managed to convince everyone to wear a pink tutu - I know how perfect it is - but every day, my pink tutu obsession fuels my drive to spread the good word about this iconic fashion piece! And so, I travel. The shows I perform in and the shows I watch are all a way for me to do what I love, and it lets me go further, see more, and spread the tutu message - and the pink one in particular, of course! This is a life well lived.
Until next Tuesday, stay fabulous and never be afraid to dream in pink!
Your friend,
Emma (Wearing my very best pink tutu, naturally)
