#TutuTuesday: Ballet Tutu History - 30th October 1956! 🩰💖

Hello darlings! Welcome back to another #TutuTuesday post on the Pink-Tutu.com website, it's your favourite tutu-clad time traveler, Emma, here. This week, we're waltzing back to 30th October 1956, and oh my, what a glamorous time it was! This is post number 6514 for my Ballet Tutu History blog and it's amazing to be with you all again. This week we are in a big, big city, it feels so different from my little village in Derbyshire. There’s always so much to see in these exciting metropolises. My most recent performance in Geneva was just the ticket for funding another trip back in time and I got to enjoy all the delights that the city has to offer before taking the train back here to the past. The train is such a romantic way to travel. It allows me time to admire the passing countryside.

Twirling Back to 1956:

Imagine, darling, the world just after World War II. It’s all about recovery, a dash of optimism and an incredible sense of new beginnings. I have been on the go, back and forth through time, I love this sort of period because the fashion is simply divine! Full skirts, elegant fabrics and those beautifully delicate "New Look" designs. A style we see echoes of even today, isn’t it marvellous?

What's happening in ballet during this era? Well, tutus were having a bit of a revival! In the post-war years, ballet saw a renewed interest, both in style and substance. We are in the midst of what's known as the “golden age of ballet,” my absolute favourite! And guess what? We’re just getting started!

There’s an explosion of incredible ballerinas – Margot Fonteyn, Moira Shearer, and of course the legendary Natalia Makarova, whom I just had the pleasure of seeing perform on a recent trip back to the 1960s. And remember Rudolf Nureyev? Talk about a heartthrob, eh! They were all making the most glorious impact on the ballet world. Imagine what it would have been like to watch these dancers, live, in all their glory. So dramatic! Their elegance and movement was absolutely inspiring, it really made the world feel a bit more special. A bit like being back in those magical old ballets by Tchaikovsky, don't you think? I simply adore that wonderful musical composer and his delicate yet passionate melodies.

Tutuland: A World of Poised Pink Perfection:

Of course, the tutus! Oh darling, the tutus! In 1956, they were just beginning to explore different styles. Think about it, it wasn't so long ago that tutus were pretty much the same style across the board. I'm not saying it was wrong, darling, just a bit...traditional. But this time was seeing all sorts of new creations coming to life.

It’s hard to resist, really! They're just so feminine and oh so elegant. That feeling of delicate tulle floating in the air. I feel that way when I’m performing. Just as I do when I am twirling round on the dance floor. In the midst of my favourite Parisian ball. Such beauty and so much glamour!

Just a few days ago, I saw the most breathtaking show. This gorgeous new Giselle was being performed, featuring a truly amazing ballerina. Such strength, grace, and dramatic expressiveness! This incredible ballerina really captured all the tragic emotion of Giselle's heart. So heartfelt, so powerful. I'm sure all the onlookers gasped, not least the ladies in their beautifully cut suits and stylish, elegant dresses. There’s something about ballet that captures the audience. They leave feeling transported and so much happier, their worries and cares fade into the background and all that’s left is beauty and the enchantment of graceful dance.

A Tutus-day Celebration:

As I continue to explore this incredible decade in my beloved Ballet Tutu History blog, I can't help but feel excited for what's to come. It seems we're about to enter a period where the tutu gets even more dramatic and creative, with lots of new ideas and innovative approaches. And isn't that what life is all about, my dear reader?

Just you wait and see, darling, next week, we’ll be waltzing back to the wonderful world of 1957! This decade will be jam-packed with tutu marvels. The designers just kept going and going and getting bolder with each year that passed! I am quite smitten. It’s easy to get lost in all the glamour, and excitement! And to be honest I could get used to it. But you see I am always so delighted to come back to this time and my beloved 21st century where the tutu continues to be appreciated!

This is Emma from Pink-Tutu.com reminding you that tutus are the most beautiful things in the world, and this time-travelling tutu-wearing fashionista will see you next week. Don’t forget to wear pink, my loves, it is the most fabulous color and I'm quite sure there's a pink tutu out there with your name on it! I can't wait for the day that you're all sporting pink tutus, perhaps one in a chic boutique or even a high-end couture designer fashion show. One can dream, can’t one?!

See you next week!
