#TutuTuesday: Ballet Tutu History - 12th February 1957

Hello, darlings! It's Emma here, your very own pink-tutu-wearing, time-travelling, ballerina blogger, bringing you another fabulous foray into the enchanting history of the ballet tutu!

Now, as we all know, there's something utterly magical about a tutu, don't you agree? Just the sight of it swirling across the stage sends shivers down your spine and brings a sparkle to your eyes, right? Well, this week we're taking a little trip back in time, specifically to the 12th of February 1957.

You wouldn't believe the fun I had that day. Picture this: I'm waltzing through the streets of Paris, a charming city that truly knows its fashion. This day was positively overflowing with sartorial splendour! I even snagged a darling little hat from a boutique, all the way from the Champs-ÉlysĂ©es, darling! Can you imagine? Pure Parisian chic!

Now, this specific day in history was buzzing with excitement. Why, the city was practically throbbing with anticipation for the ballet at the Palais Garnier, a true jewel in the Parisian crown, I must say! They were performing Giselle by none other than the legendary choreographer Marius Petipa, who, my dears, helped define the artistry of the tutu and transformed it from something practical to a visual masterpiece. Petipa was all about showcasing the female form and creating that ethereal look that we love, so much so, that he was considered the Michelangelo of Ballet!

It's difficult to truly grasp the level of excitement that pulsated throughout Paris on this day. It's as though the very city itself felt the power and passion of ballet, all in anticipation of the upcoming performance.

Oh, the tutus!

As I slipped into the elegant Palais Garnier, a sigh escaped my lips - pure ballet heaven! The performance, with its dreamy choreography and romantic story, made my heart skip a beat! Giselle, set in the dreamy woodland, allowed the tutus to truly dance and soar. I loved the contrasting romantic tutus of the village maidens in the first act, so different from the ethereal wispy tutus of the Wili spirits in the second.

Now, of course, I can't let a tutu-loving girl like myself go without a little shopping! Paris is a sartorial paradise! After the show, I dashed into "La Maison de la Danse", a boutique specialising in dance attire, where I purchased a truly darling tutu in the most luscious shade of rose. Pink, as you all know, is the ultimate expression of joy and elegance, so how could I possibly resist?

Oh! And my journey to Paris? By train, of course! I adore the glamour and romance of train travel. This particular day, I took the famous “Cîte d'Azur” Express - imagine - the luxury! The rhythmic clack of the train tracks combined with the swaying scenery really does create a certain "en pointe" feeling, don't you think?

But that wasn't all! In a stroke of sheer serendipity, while enjoying afternoon tea at the chic "LadurĂ©e" salon on the Champs-ÉlysĂ©es, I even spotted an incredible display of pink macarons! Now, that’s what I call a day perfectly curated for a ballerina.

And don’t even get me started on the stunning fashion I spotted while promenading through the streets! There were such vibrant shades, so much intricate lace and stylish hats... I mean, the Parisian fashion of that time is so timeless.

Speaking of Parisian glamour, this time in history was marked by the legendary designer, Christian Dior. Now, this man really did revolutionise fashion, you know! He introduced the famous “New Look,” a truly revolutionary fashion silhouette that took the world by storm. It’s still a trend I embrace today!

It's these glimpses of the past, like that day in Paris, that make my time-travel adventures truly extraordinary. The world was so vibrant! The sheer love of performance art, the dedication to style and grace, the captivating atmosphere
it’s truly a beautiful thing to witness.

So there you have it, darlings! That was my #TutuTuesday ballet history blog for the 12th of February 1957. Now, I want to hear from you! Tell me about your favorite ballet performances or tutus from this time period! And of course, don't forget to post pictures of your latest tutu looks. I love seeing them! Remember, it’s not just about ballet - it’s about letting your own personal grace shine through!

Until next week,
