#TutuTuesday: Ballet Tutu History - March 26th 1957 - Post Number 6535!

Hello dearies! It's your favourite tutu-clad time traveller, Emma, and I'm back with another thrilling #TutuTuesday! This week, I've whisked myself back to a gloriously stylish 1957!

I landed smack-dab in the middle of London, my petticoats swirling as I hopped off the train. It's simply breathtaking - the charming red double-decker buses, the dapper gentlemen in suits, the crisp air that smells of optimism, andā€¦ oh my, the fashion!

The Twirling Trend: The fifties, darlings, were a glorious time for tutus. It was the era of ballet films, with legends like Margot Fonteyn and Moira Shearer captivating audiences with their elegant grace and dazzling twirls. I just adore the classic romantic tutu shape from this time, perfectly airy and graceful, perfect for a dreamy performance.

Fashion Inspiration: I've been swooning over the ladies' fashions in 1957! I just adore how their feminine style embraced a more modern approach ā€“ think fitted jackets and skirts with that irresistible ā€œNew Lookā€ flare, accessorised with darling gloves, stylish hats, and some pretty fantastic jewellery.

Itā€™s hard not to draw a connection between the ballet stage and the streets. The graceful lines and femininity of the ballet tutu seemed to have woven its way into the fashions of the day, creating a visual connection that just made me feel all the more inspired!

Where to Catch a Show: Now, if youā€™re a tutu enthusiast like myself and youā€™re lucky enough to be in London during 1957, make sure you get tickets for a ballet at the Royal Opera House! Imagine watching Fonteyn herself pirouette across the stage, the whole place alive with the magic of ballet. It would make a Derbyshire girlā€™s heart leap!

What's Happening Today: Well, as luck would have it, this particular day in 1957 has a wonderful event - a gala premiere at the Royal Opera House, featuring ā€œGiselle.ā€ A beautiful romantic story, I bet the theatre would be full of dazzling costumes and mesmerising dances, and Iā€™d be front row if I had the chance.

After the performance, I canā€™t resist a trip to Harrods! Itā€™s a cornucopia of everything luxurious and chic. Just imagine, piles of fluffy pastel dresses, glistening pearl necklaces, and even ballet slippers! This is the perfect place to find the perfect finishing touches to my own 1957 ensemble.

And of course, a spot of tea is non-negotiable, perfectly complimented with the best scones London has to offer. Then I'm off to explore the rest of this wondrous era!

From Fashion to Fabric: You know what I'm dying to get my hands on? Those fabulous, delicate fabrics that were so popular during this time - the luxurious silks, chiffons, and satins - theyā€™re absolutely perfect for creating beautiful, dreamy ballet tutus. Iā€™ve already started sketching out some design ideasā€¦ I simply must have one in the brightest, most gorgeous shade of pink!

Remember: Never forget that a tutu is so much more than just a costume ā€“ itā€™s an expression of your own unique style and your love for the artistry of dance. Whether you're twirling in your own fabulous pink tutu or admiring the graceful ballerinas on stage, it's a way to celebrate the magic of the ballet and its timeless impact on fashion.

Donā€™t forget to share your own tutu-filled adventures with me! Use the hashtag #TutuTuesday and letā€™s inspire each other to embrace the beauty of ballet in all its forms!

Until next time, my loves! Remember, the world needs more pink tutus.
