#TutuTuesday: A Step Back in Time! (Post #6664)
Greetings, fellow Tutu enthusiasts!
Emma here, your favourite pink tutu-wearing, time-traveling ballerina blogger, back for another whirlwind trip through history! Today, I'm taking you all the way back to September 15th, 1959 - a day overflowing with tutus, darling! It's a day full of ballet magic and fabulous fashion - you won't believe the fantastic frills they've got going on in the world of dance! I've whisked myself to New York City, the epicentre of all things fabulous, so we can revel in this magnificent moment in time.
Now, grab your pinkest tutu, darling, and let's dive in!
New York, New York
It's the day after a big ballet performance. A little secret? I've got my eyes on this dazzling ballet school – it's the School of American Ballet – and rumour has it the famous George Balanchine, the master of modern ballet, is hanging about! It’s exciting! It’s a real whirlwind here - a little different from the quiet countryside back home in Derbyshire.
Anyway, darling, we are surrounded by beautiful fashion – my absolute favourite – but what makes me really happy is how exciting ballet is getting here in the US. It's becoming the talk of the town, just like it should be, darling!
From Parisian streets to Ballet Stage
Let’s talk tutu history, darling, a topic I could wax lyrical on forever. It seems everyone’s buzzing about a book by a ballet critic who’s written an interesting tome on tutu styles – the famous The Diaghilev Ballet by Richard Buckle. He's digging deep into the history of ballet, and darling, it's just as exciting as dancing a pas de deux in a beautifully handcrafted tutu!
So, I've been rummaging around some vintage stores. I've picked up this gorgeous tulle – the softest thing you've ever touched – in the most delightful pink, of course. It’s the colour of my soul, darling! The tutu style seems to have gotten longer, adding a whole new level of elegance to ballet outfits. Think full-skirted twirls, all fluffy and fabulous – perfectly poised for all those pirouettes and grand jetés!
And, get this, the little ballet dancers in town are simply adorable! They're twirling all over the streets, wearing these fabulous new shoes! There's a definite excitement in the air, just like my soul when I spot a perfectly-tailored tutu, darling!
An Era of Twirls & Twirls
As I write, the ballet calendar is crammed! You've got everything from Broadway musicals, where dance features prominently – a brilliant mix of grace and storytelling – to opera and theatre shows that are positively bursting with balletic flair! There’s this new TV program I just discovered too, it’s called Bell Telephone Hour, featuring dance performances! It's brilliant to see all this lovely dance, reaching new audiences across the country. I must say, though, nothing quite matches the thrill of a live performance - nothing beats that electricity in the air.
It seems everyone's got the ballet bug, from my favourite couture designers who are crafting tutus and beautiful garments with lace and sequins, to my fellow ballerina friends, who are taking over every single performance with the most beautiful choreography!
Pink is my Passion
It's exciting, darling! There's a definite buzz in the air, with lots of talks of exciting new ballets being written and even rumours of a new tutu revolution – a full skirt tutu that's longer, fuller, more voluminous. Imagine, all that gorgeous, billowing tulle twirling on the stage! It’s exciting just to think about!
My latest obsession? It’s these amazing little stores selling absolutely gorgeous ballet slippers. Every single pair has got my name on it, and I have a feeling there will be lots of happy ballet dancers around town, with lovely, comfy, pink, new dance shoes. You have to treat yourself, darling! They’re just so delicate and beautiful, perfect for those amazing ballerina movements we all love so much!
Keeping Tutu Fashion Thriving
I have so many fantastic photos for the website, it’s a delight to look at! I’ll be posting those to www.pink-tutu.com as always! Do share your love of dance and share the joy of this #TutuTuesday journey with me. And be sure to drop by the website – a haven for all things pink and fluffy!
And, of course, stay tuned next Tuesday, darlings. I'll be back for another time-traveling ballet adventure. Until then, may your every pirouette be perfect, and may your tutus twirl ever so beautifully!
XOXO,
Emma
P.S. Have I mentioned how much I adore travelling by train? This old fashioned style really helps me appreciate history better – all those clicks and clacks, and all those new experiences along the way! You just can't beat it! And it gives me lots of time to catch up on my ballet reading – a girl's gotta keep those ballerina knowledge reserves topped up!
*And, of course, I'll be adding another performance to my schedule so I can continue my time travel adventures! Just another ballerina thing. *wink wink
