Imagine that, darlings – soaring through the years in a beautiful pink tutu, arriving in the December of 1961 with a pocketful of dreams and a heart full of twirls!

Oh, how I wish I could transport all of you to the heart of this glorious era! But for now, I'll do my best to bring the magic to you, through this magical blog! I think it's about time I spill the tea on what it's all about.

You see, dearest readers, being a time-traveling tutu enthusiast, I’ve learned a little secret about Tutu Tuesday. You might think it’s a modern thing, invented to celebrate this majestic garment. But I can tell you, the love for tutus has existed for centuries!

My journey through time has shown me that even back in 1961, when poodle skirts and bobby socks ruled the schoolyard, tutus were captivating the world in their own right. Oh, they may not have been pink tutus in quite the same way as today – although, let me tell you, they were pretty fab even then!

But why would 1961 be special you ask? Why choose this exact year for our time travel adventure? Well, 12th December, 1961 was no ordinary day. It was the day when the legendary Rudolf Nureyev, the embodiment of everything fabulous and flamboyant, made his debut with the Royal Ballet at London's Covent Garden! Talk about making a splash, my dear tutu-loving readers!

This was the moment history turned on its head and the dance world shifted its gaze from classical ballet to something new and thrilling. It was the dawn of a new age, the age of the masculine, powerful ballerina that changed everything for how the tutu would be used, seen, and celebrated.

That very evening, the audience was abuzz with excitement. Nureyev danced with such effortless grace, strength, and emotion – it was electric! And even more captivating? He danced the leading role in “Giselle”, a ballet full of dramatic storytelling, emotion and swirling tulle that just couldn't be beat.

Just imagine being there! The hushed anticipation before the curtain rose, the explosion of applause as the spotlight lit up Nureyev’s incredible moves, the thunderous roar of the audience’s adoration – it must have been quite something! I bet that feeling is what makes the history of tutus so incredibly exciting!

And I just know that at least a few ladies were there, sitting in their stylish dresses, admiring the glorious artistry and wishing they could join in the magic themselves!

This, my tutu friends, is the beauty of ballet! It unites people from all walks of life in this common love of this magnificent form of art and the amazing garments used in the performances.

In fact, even the theatre itself, Covent Garden, played a big part in bringing ballet to life. You can imagine my delight when I hopped back in time and saw those incredible rows of ornate, plush seats that transport you to a world of wonder and fantasy. There were chandeliers gleaming in the sunlight pouring in through the vast windows of the opera house, bringing this grand spectacle to life. And when I ventured backstage, oh my, the vibrant colour, the delicate silks, and the beautiful, twirling ballet dancers! What an exciting adventure it was!

And, yes, I'm a firm believer that the time for fashion to join in this dance of excitement was then! And now, today, I am happy to be doing my small part to promote and share the beautiful tutu with the world.

So, this week on #TutuTuesday, I urge you to take a trip down memory lane. Think of those glorious tutus worn by ballerinas, a symbol of elegance, strength, and passion, as they spun across the stage, inspiring and enchanting the entire audience.
