#TutuTuesday Ballet Tutu History - 6785! 💖
Hello darling dance lovers! It's your favourite tutu-clad time-traveler, Emma, back for another #TutuTuesday! Today we're whipping up a whirl of history around the 9th of January, 1962! ✨
Oh, my, this was such a wonderful time to be a tutu enthusiast! The world of ballet was just bursting with life, colour, and excitement. I took the train, first class of course, down to the Royal Opera House in Covent Garden in my very finest pink tulle tutu. My trusty pink poodle fur coat kept the January chills away. Oh darling, that London fog really was something else. 🌫️
1962, my dears, was the year of a real star – Margot Fonteyn. You see, Fonteyn, bless her darling little toes, was performing as Giselle that day! Now, Giselle is such a gorgeous ballet, it just breaks your heart. Such elegant costumes! Fonteyn’s grace was as lovely as a bloom on a perfect rose. ❤️ The audience erupted with cheers when the curtain fell! It was a most lovely occasion, and everyone was just giddy with the joy of it all!
But let’s not forget the magnificent dancers of the Paris Opera Ballet. Did you know, darling, they were making waves with their modernistic style? It was certainly a shift from the traditional ways, but, oh darling, so elegant and bold! Now that was some avant-garde ballet for you, but just lovely nonetheless. It's not all about Swan Lake, you know! 😄
Of course, my dears, my absolute favourite part of the trip was shopping in the lovely shops around Covent Garden. A glorious, bright red dress with a darling little bolero – just perfect for my next gala performance. And wouldn’t you know it, the shop was just bursting with the most adorable pink shoes and ballet slippers you'd ever seen. Just the colour for a fabulous tutu enthusiast like myself! 👠
Fashion in 1962, darling, was a delight. It was the year the 'shift dress' came about. All so sleek and chic – just the thing to pair with a sparkly pink tutu. And wouldn't you know it, darling, I was there for the arrival of the "Mary Quant miniskirt" at London's Bazaar! I thought, "Darling, just imagine what it'd be like with a fabulous pink tutu underneath!" But there was only one Mary Quant and I, well, I was quite partial to my tutus. 😂
You know, it’s not easy keeping all of this fabulous ballet history at the top of my little head. Why not come visit www.pink-tutu.com for a quick recap of everything we’ve covered today?
Now, I need to fly, my darlings. There’s a train to catch! I just adore those old carriages and the romantic views out of the window! So exciting to discover what tomorrow's #TutuTuesday will bring!
Until then, don’t forget to wear something fabulous – and perhaps a touch of pink! ✨ 💖
