Tutu Tuesday: A Trip to 1962! πŸ©°πŸ’–

Hello my gorgeous Tutu Twirlers! Welcome to another exciting installment of Tutu Tuesday! Today's blog post is extra special, because I'm going on a bit of a trip down memory lane. Buckle up, buttercup, because we're about to time-travel back to the 1960s! πŸš„

The Roaring Sixties!

1962, what a year! The world was buzzing with excitement – new music, incredible fashion, and a sense of optimistic change swirling in the air. For us ballet fanatics, 1962 was a big year for the Royal Ballet, darling. In London, this fabulous group was on a whirlwind tour with the Balanchine, Les Sylphides, Swan Lake, and the oh-so-dreamy Romeo and Juliet performances, just to name a few. Can you imagine seeing those? Pure magic! πŸ’–βœ¨

The '60s look: As we whizz back to 1962, I can already see the fabulously fun fashion – bouffant hairdos, bold colours, geometric prints. Now, while a classic tutu has its place in any ballet performance, 1962 was a bit of a fashion game changer. Just picture a tutu with all the latest styles; a dash of A-line flair, a pop of geometric shapes. Talk about an exciting contrast!

#TutuTuesday Travel Diary!

My trusty pink tutu (the most magnificent one in the world, of course!) is always with me on my adventures, but let me tell you – 1962 is a fashion wonderland!

We travelled from Derby, which you know is close to my heart, straight to London via a glorious train journey (as you know, nothing beats a train ride to get you in the mood for a fabulous time)! Arriving at The Royal Opera House it was an instant blast from the past! Think opulent Victorian decor, lush velvet seats, and, oh, the sheer grandeur! *Swoon! * πŸ’– I just loved every minute!

We did a little shopping after the performance (it is my absolute favourite thing to do, you know that! I mean, who doesn't love a bit of retail therapy?). There were so many amazing little shops! A little detour to a vintage boutique allowed me to score the cutest black and white checked mini dress with a bright pink ribbon! I couldn't resist it!

The '60s also had some remarkable fashion influencers: Think Jackie Kennedy, the Duchess of Windsor, and even Twiggy, the iconic fashion model who took the world by storm with her sleek, edgy style. I mean, seriously, she's an inspiration! And her iconic β€˜mod’ look? Talk about fabulous! She was totally ahead of her time, and it really brings a little '60s magic into any outfit!

What's hot, what's not

So let's break it down – what were the must-have tutus of 1962? Well, picture *a touch of playful fluffiness and a nod to the classic, a bit more *β€œcouture" than just the classic style. Think tulle with some embroidery details or maybe some delicate sequins – I can already see a million pink tutu outfits just begging to be made! A classic tutu, but with a 1960s twist. That's my favourite!

Keep those twirling dreams alive! πŸ’–

Don’t forget to share your favourite vintage tutu styles in the comments below! I always love seeing your incredible photos. #TutuTuesday
