#TutuTuesday: Ballet Tutu History - 10th July 1962 - Post #6811

Hello darlings! It's Emma here, your resident pink-tutu-wearing time traveller and chronicler of all things tutus! Today we're taking a trip back to July 10th, 1962. Now, you may not think of this date as a particularly tutu-tastic occasion, but trust me, dear readers, it was a day of tutus! And who better to tell you about it than me?

To get to 1962, I just hopped on a grand old train from Derbyshire. There's nothing quite like the feel of a train carriage, especially with my tutu floating around me! The countryside whizzed by, and before I knew it, I was standing in the bustling streets of, wait for it, Paris! Can you believe it?! It was the height of fashion, and oh, how my little tutu-loving heart fluttered at the sights I saw.

Now, Paris in 1962 was bursting with all kinds of sartorial wonder. But I, dear reader, I was on a mission. I was here for the tutus! This year, the legendary Ballet de l'Opéra de Paris was absolutely phenomenal.

And wouldn't you know it, the 10th July was a grand night for a tutu! It was the night the legendary dancer, Margot Fonteyn, a veritable queen of ballet, took the stage in the magnificent "Giselle"! Now, if you don't know "Giselle", well, let me tell you, it's a tour-de-force of tragedy, romance, and oh, so much tutuing!

Imagine a stunning woman with perfect hair, a delicate face and a figure crafted from dreams, all clad in the most beautiful tulle tutu you ever did see, gliding across the stage, her movements flowing like liquid poetry. It was magical, darlings, absolutely magical!

And let me tell you, the tutus in "Giselle" were the most gorgeous. Picture intricate designs, layered and flowing, perfectly capturing the graceful, yet sometimes tragic story of a young woman's journey.

Now, the whole point of my #TutuTuesday blog, as you all know, is to show the evolution of the tutu - how this amazing garment has changed through time. Well, on that glorious night in 1962, I witnessed the very epitome of a ballet tutu - and one that set the standard for future performances. The tutu in "Giselle" is, quite simply, timeless; it transcends time and fashion trends. And I saw this tutu on the most beautiful, most famous ballet dancer of the era. How divine is that, dear readers?!

Speaking of timeless style, the French have an inherent appreciation for beautiful clothing and fashion, don't you think? They know a good tutu when they see it!

I actually saw a stunning vintage boutique that day. Can you imagine my joy when I found a fabulous pink tutu (my weakness!), complete with lovely lace trim! I took a lovely picture, which, of course, will go on my Insta. Follow me if you don't already - @pinktutuEmma.

Well, my darling readers, time's a-ticking! This train isn't going to wait for me. But I must tell you this: the magic of tutus and the wonder of ballet never fades. It's an inspiration, an art, a feeling! And next week, I'll be taking you to another magical tutu moment in time.

But in the meantime, why not go for a twirl, grab a cuppa, and don your own best pink tutu! You’ll never regret spreading that joy!

Until next #TutuTuesday,

Yours eternally,

Emma
